Hall has posted on his Twitter and Facebook that he has ran his last marathon. It was the 7th in 7 days and was completed in 5:15:34. While in many ways that is an epic way to finish a marathon career (the 7 marathons in 7 days etc.), but if you look just at the time, for a guy who ran Boston in 2:04:58 (wind aided, whatever), is a 5:15:34 the way to end?
Anyone else disappointed? I was hoping this was the start of a comeback.
Ryan Hall has ran his last marathon ever, in 5:15:34... disappointing or just me?

Nice. I'll take this perspective of my last race. -
In what world would someone imagine 7 marathons in consecutive days on different continents the potential start to a comeback?

I agree. Unlike most of letsrun posters, I like Ryan Hall. So it's a little odd to see Mike Wardian beat him in this 7 day show. I know he didn't plan on running it fast but over five hours for who I once thought would be the best American Marathoner of all time, is a little cringe worthy.

Hmm, I don't know, oh wait, I do - I'd say in a world where a guy basically quite running due to fatigue and then suddenly puts in a 180 mile week. Yeah. That world. -
*has RUN his last marathon

Also, he said it was his last "race" - so, that sounds like it's all organized runs, not just the marathon distance. -
Forks were stuck in him.

He didn't say it was his last race.

I'm more disappointed in your inability to use the proper tense of a simple verb.
*has run -
Everyone swears off the 'thon after a 5+ hour slog. I say he comes back to run a sub-3:00 with one of his daughters someday.

has run: he runs--present tense; he ran--past tense; he has run--present perfect; he had run--past perfect; he will run--future tense.

I ran 4:59 my last marathon which was also in a race against Wardian! My split was 1:35/3:24. A month before I had run 3:08.

Oh, He's done.

Good for him. Go home, be a father to your girls and a husband to your wife. Enjoy life. Maybe he will volunteer coach or something. Who knows. Who cares.
So let's see. The guy has a history of withdrawals from races and DNFs...gives up professional marathon..has run 2:04...led the race and made the Kenyans and Ethiopians respect him at London Marathon...runs 30 miles a week MAYBE and then does 7 marathons in 7 days...
and you are disappointed he ran a 5:15?
The guy doesn't owe you, or any of us, shit. It sounds like the last one was extremely difficult to even finish. He went out the way he wanted. He earned the right to do that. -

It's in the article.

"So I’m just going to enjoy this last 42km I’ll ever do. I was thinking, it’s very fitting, actually, to have a rough day, just because that’s how my career went. High highs and low lows. That’s what happens when you dream big, train hard and give it everything.â€"
I say disappointing. I'd prefer him to taper properly and run 2:30 for his last one. He was over the Oprah line. How can any running fan not be disappointed! -
I'm not disappointed. In the Wardian vs Hall thread there were predictions that Hall would not complete all seven. Well, Hall toughed out the last one, which is big in my book. It would have been so easy to DNF. I believe it's actually harder to run 5:15:34 than, say, 2:37:47. Admittedly I haven't done either one, but I have seen plenty of both. Five+ hours is a long slog when some of the body parts have already quit on you.

Why do you all assume the error was the in the verb? I didn't mean to include "has" in there. Sorry about that, hope you all can get the knots out of your panties.
Hall ran his last marathon ever.
I think he can retire, I was selfishly wanting to see him return to his old form, or better. Hall was a great runner. -
I like him a lot, but I tend to agree. He does a good job of generating PR.
