Alberto coaching Rupp for Oregon?

I read that article on Galen Rupp attending and running for Oregon and being coached by Alberto.I guess I just do not get it but is Alberto coaching at Oregon?Is he a volunteer Coach such as Tyson?I was just wondering would some of you other college coaches allow this in your program?I was once recruiting a kid who told me he wanted his club coach to coach him at the college he decides to attend.He even told me some other college coaches would allow this.I explained to him while I might not be the smack daddy of coaching but I am not the team manager.Okay, I know coaches are managers as will but come on?

I suppose it's hard to draw lines in the sand when you've just sold-out the integrity of your athletic department to prevent your biggest booster from pulling his money for a basketball arena.

Oregon had a similar situation with DeOlivera coaching Cruz.

Martin Smith was his own worst enemy. All Phil did was make comments to that effect.

Actually, they are showing more integrity for getting rid of the despot and getting a coach in who will work with the talent rather than alienate it and drive it off.

If Tyson can coach circles around Smith then why do they need to bring in Salazar? Tyson obviously is NOT good enough! And don't use the excuse Salazar is Galen's coach and has been since high school - that excuse is really starting to make me sick! What kid entering college isn't also getting a new coach? All of them except Galen Rupp because he's so special or Salazar is too full of himself or they are trying to bring back Oregon's past. God they are so pathetic! No matter how you dice it - it stinks! And the bottom line regarding Tyson is he obviously isn't good enough!

I guess my point is who is running the show? Does this mean if I am some super star I can keep my club coach at Oregon?Let's say I am at Oregon, can I ask/demand that Alberto coaches me not Tyson?Why not?

My point is this, Oregon needs to hire a coach and stand behind them/him/her/it.If it's Alberto then he is the coach, end of story.If it's not Alberto, he needs to take a step back and just give his support from the sidelines like the rest of us.I do not know the A.D at Oregon but he has helped create one #$@$@#% mess and he does not even know it.I predict that his days are numbered as the A.D at Oregon.This is just my humble observation as an outsider watching the big dogs wrestling like a bunch of NBA All Stars while cheapening the integrity of their school and athletic department.

I read that Salazar is still be coaching Rupp and that he showed up to the Oregon team practice. Their vault coach is a volunteer and now Tyson a volunteer coach. They already had the full allotment of paid coaches. If Salazar shows up to the Oregon practice doesn’t that make him another volunteer coach? How many can they have? Have they already had a NCAA violation for too many coaches?

Maybe this has been discussed, and if so, sorry to bring it up again, but here goes -

College coach goes to the pros to coach (Spurrier, Pitino to name a couple) and fails. Could not the same happen for a high school coach going to the college ranks? Granted you are not dealing with professionals as Spurrier and Pitino were, but you are dealing with a new level of athlete.

Tyson may do well at Oregon, but I would say that any success in the distances this year belongs as much to Smith as Tyson. Smith laid the base for the kids this year. Tyson had success at Mead, no doubt about it. But he seems to be the "fit" for this job because he was Pre's roommate, he is an Oregon alum and he was successful at Mead (and I would put it in that order). That's my opinion.

The better question as a parent is, what kind of life values is Alberto teaching?

If Rupp were my kid I would take him completly out of that situation!

From now on any accusations that people make against Salazar I'll be prone to believe, because I believe it is really egotistical, narcissistic and controlling to try to coach a "kid" when the college he is attending already has a coach. And I say "kid" because only a kid would allow somebody such as Salazar to controll him.

P.S. Put yourself in the coaches place Alberto.

Would Vin Lananna approve of this coaching situation?

People were saying that Tyson was just a puppet and that Alberto was going to be pulling the strings. Most of the Tyson backers said that Tyson is a great coach and that he would never allow that to happen. The current situation with Rupp shows one thing. IT IS HAPPENING.

you guys are making assumptions about a situation where you don't know details. Salazar is not coaching the UO team, he is going to be working with Rupp. Tyson is also going to be working with Rupp, but Salazar will be at team practices a few days a week to work strictly with Galen Rupp. Tyson agreed that it would be a good situation because of the level that Galen is at if he stuck with the same workouts. You guys like to make a problem out of nothing. And a team can have as many volunteer coaches as they like, because volunteer means they are not being paid. They can only have a certain number of official paid coaches. This is not a mess, but keep thinking like that if you want to, when you dont even know the situation other than what you read on here. And please stop slamming UO, Salazar, Tyson, and whoever else. Thanks.

Rupp's parents are paying Salazar as a private coach. An article in the paper said this was legal as long as he wasn't involved in workouts with other UofO runners.

yea i think thats gay as hell that rupp is gonna be coached by salazar. if i was tyson i would say no. and if i was a runner on the team, i'd be giving both rupp and salazar shit. thats just not right. that rupp still gets his private coaching while running for Oregon, not for salazar and the gay ass nike oregon project.

What is wrong with you people. Why does it make you feel better to slam and insult people who are trying to improve the sport? There is no dilemma here, it has been agreed and worked out as a good decision. It isnt illegal, nor is it unfair. If Rupp ends up doing well for the team, why would you spit on that? He is paying to have Salazar coach him there, and Salazar will be coaching him and noone else. Tyson also will be working with him. I just dont understand how mean spirited and insulting alot of these comments are. Ridiculous.

I am not attacking Alberto or Tyson but rather stating my opinion that their is one too many cooks in the Kitchen.I mean can you imagine the great Bowerman coaching/working in this environment.Yes, I understand that Dellenger did this with Cruze.If they hire Alberto,then I think Tyson needs to pack his bags and go home.The same holds true for Alberto.

OTC you are misinformed. The NCAA does have a limit on volunteer coaches.

no, because a volunteer coach does not have to be documented if they are not official. Anyone can come and help out or run with the athletes, etc. But Salazar is not a UO coach, he is a private coach hired by Rupp. That's all.

Not official is where the problem is. Rupp's family has every right to hire Salazar or anyone they would like to coach him. The problem with it is when Salazar shows up to an Oregon team practice, which it sound like he did. He must be an Oregon volunteer coach to coach Rupp in such a manner.
