Hello everyone
I just turned 21 and last year (somewhere at the end of march) I decided to pick up running again after being completely inactive for about 1,5 to 2 years (so from 18 to 20 years old). Before that I used to play soccer until I was 17. I also used to run additionally, but not in a very structured way (though I guess I wasn't very bad, I once ran a tne miles road race in 1:01:45). As I already said I stopped doing any kind of sport soon after that and regretted it a few years later. Now, after taking up the sport again, I take running pretty seriously because I realise it's my last chance to reach something. In april last year my athletics coach advised me to focus on the 800m and so I did. 20 weeks after I started running again I ran 2:12.5 (as a test in training, not a race). Another 10 weeks later (so 30 in total) I ran 2:04.7 (under the same circumstances). So what do you think guys? Is this fast progression or just normal? Do you think I've got potential to reach some high level if I keep working? Will my progression stagnate soon or is there a chance I'll keep improving significantly? Maybe I'm too old?
P.S: I did this on 50-60 km a week, 2-3 pretty hard weight sessions a week and some intervals every now and then (let's say once or twice a week some 200m-repetitions or hills).
