So, yes, the US is faster on this score. Obviously teh 1500m and marathon are far better but the 5k & 10k are arguably relatively close.
The Irish 1500 & marathon records are old, arent they?
what about the 3k - flat and chase?
ireland
3k MC 7:30.36, 04:08:99
Chase Brendan Quinn 8:24.9, 30:08:85
US
3k 7:30.84
Chase, Henry Marsh, 8:09.17, 28:08:85
So, ireland are faster in teh 3k.
thanx
Yeah clearly the marathon and 1500 m records are far apart. I believe the Irish record is pretty old, maybe expect carroll to run quicker than 2.09?? The 5k and 10k are qite similar, not bad for a tiny nation. Although I believe carroll holds the 10k record as lombard admitted to using when he broke it- i could be wrong?
You are correct. I put Lombards up because i stole teh times from a website. I also put MC's time up.
The worrying thing from an Irish perspective is how few athletes besides Mark have entered teh Irish top 10 in these events within the past decade. Very few....
5000m - Mark, Cragg, Finnerty and Lombard (...who was most likely cheating)
10000m - Mark, Power, Lombard (...ditto)
Marathon - Mark
Typo. Should be ...Mark Carroll 27.46.82

I cant see any of those records being around after Cragg has a proper go at them, although the 3km will be a tough one to get...
You must be joking. Cragg will never touch the 1500 or the 3k.
You obviously dont know that much about him - the 3km is the toughest one for him - but the 1500m is within his reach - he is also very fast but never been properly tested at 1500m.
Report back to this post when he does break them..
I dont think Cragg will specialise enough break the 1500m. The current 10k is within reach, the 5k is a possibility within a few years but the 3k is a very strong time. I think it's still the 23rd fastest ever and 2nd fastest European behind Viciosa. All doable though.
I sure wish I could have been in Oslo in 1982.
One record that Ireland has on everyone (except Morocco)
Mens Indoor Mile
off the top of my head: 3:49.77
