Adolescents are not miniature adults and there are considerably more issues than merely decreasing mileage and frequency.
You need to factor in mental toughness as well as the ability to handle the intencity of the workouts.
Highschoolers should be having fun and playing other sports. Early specialization has ruined more athletes than helped.

I have kids running easy miles ~3 per day. Fartlek - Team Chase type workouts. No long run --
