US men couldn't compete on the world stage if they still had to compete with wr holders in their primes either.
The problem is that they forgot to list meeeeeee!
How is this "bad" news? USA doesn't waste resources on useless things.
We prefer to waste our resources on drug testing instead.

Yes, of course.
To run the event at an international level you now need speed comparable to a world top 30 1500 meter competitor. But the 1500 is the glamor event - US women with that capability won't ever try to make a career of the 5k. Simpson and Rowbury might be our best at 5000 meters today, but they rarely have competed at that distance on the track and it's now probably too late for them to challenge the world's best.
