I've gotten the 'thon bug since doing one last month. I'm 33 and ran 3:10, and want to see how fast I can run, long term. My shoot for the moon goal would be to run under 2:30 by age 40. I took 2 weeks completely off, and I have slowly been running, but my legs are not back to 100% yet so taking days off when appropriate. I was hoping to do another one in spring, but depending on how fast my legs recover, I may push out my next try until later so I can make sure to recover completely before I begin serious training.
I know it depends on everyone's body, but what have been your optimal amount of marathoning? I've read Hanson's method, and they recommend 3 every 2 years and that sounds about right so space out around once every 8 months or so. So, after one, give optimal time to recover with worst case scenario taking 2 months, then spending 6 months to train for the next one.
