Don't know why they didn't pick Bekele as one of the three athletes.
Doesn't this cheapen the attempt a little?

What a stupid publicity stunt. I hate Nike even more after this
Bekele is "signed" with the other group doing the attempt on the Dead Sea, together with two Robertson brothers...
It says Nike aren't that interested in the course being record eligible. So it seems all they need is a point to point downhill course?
Could do it tomorrow surely?!
For the upteenth time I will suggest the St George Marathon. A guy in legit 204 shape with pacers could have a crack at 2. I'd suggest splits of 60:29 and 59:30 since there is a gradual uphill around miles 7-9.

Just drop a guy from 26.2 miles high.
This is awesome. I'm pretty excited to follow along with this. Especially having the Bekele group also going for it. Almost has a Bannister/Landy feel to it.
Will not happen.
I will bet every penny I have, and will ever earn, that the marathon WR stays above 2:00:00 until such a time as we openly allow some kind of performance boosting supplements and/or apparatus.

Why? They said the course doesn't need to be record eligible. So it can just be downhill. There has been at least one 3:30 MILE on a downhill course.
The article was edited.
They left off the part where the writer of the article wrote:
"Everywhere I went, people were in white Nike coats and asking each other "How the special sauce is today". At the Nike cafeteria for lunch, which had a good amount of carbs, proteins, fresh vegetables and fruits, I tried several different salad dressings and couldn't figure out which one was the special sauce. Maybe it's an inside joke about the Thousand Island dressing, which is made on-site daily by a chef?"
A bold move, to be sure.
WOAH WOAH WOAH WHAT THIS IS INSANE.
I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS BUT IM ECSTATIC TO SEE THE END RESULT

Like Mo's first Marathon? People forgot that failure very quickly.
^^^^^^^^^^^
that is fake news and should be investigated
Super glad Nike will be beating those losers (besides Bekele) over at the sub-2hr project. That group seemed odd to me

Editor's note: Two threads on this topic have been combined. There also is a wired article on this:
https://www.wired.com/2016/12/nike-two-hour-marathon/just do a thon on a track. their shins, knees, etc...will most likely take a horrible beating but hey sub 2 right?
Most likely scenario: Kenenisa runs close to 2:2 flat in Dubai. No one else beats that for the next 30 years. Nike `forgets' about this project as the end of 2017 gets nearer.

Maybe a banked track. I'm sure a marathon in a single straight line would be faster than one in which the runner has to turn every 200m. Wouldn't all the races already done on tracks be faster if run on a track surface that was one single straightaway?
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
