Yeah, and if you think about it, teaching HS is going to mainly appeal to those type of people. If you truly hated HS you probably are not going to become a HS teacher. The people that find that job attractive are people that had a positive HS experience, so you're HS teachers are going to be filled with ex-HS jocks, cheerleaders and prom kings/queens.
This is a chance to go back to where they were important, and now they are teaching they are even MORE important.

The teachers that one know are not described by your narrative. Most of the teachers I know where in the middle of the social order in high school and usually slightly nerdy. Of course, maybe that is because all the teachers I know were college track friends.

Something like this might be going on at my high school. I have been teaching there for 8 yrs. This year, we got a new female teacher who was a student of mine back when I started teaching. Very nice young lady, she was the star of the basketball team back them. She can´t be more than 24 years old.
I have a male student in my class this year (I had him last year as well so I know him really well). He is a junior but just turned 18. He is a jock, three sport athlete, star of all three of his sports, all conference football player, very charismatic and has always had the attitude that will go after and get what he wants. Last fall he stayed in my class during lunch to make up some missing work. We started talking about his classes and how he was doing in them, his new teachers etc. It turns out he had this new young female teacher for English and when he started talking about her, he mentioned that he really found her pretty. I thought nothing of it really, she is very pretty after all.
In November, I came in to school on a Sunday to work in my classroom when I noticed the light in her room on as well. Thought nothing of it because I had seen her work weekends on previous occasions as well. A few hours later, I was walking down the hall to the copy room when I noticed someone was peeking through the window of her room at me. As I looked towards the window, I saw that it was him (my male student) and he quickly ducked as not to be seen. I didn´t know what to do or what to think, just WTF is he doing in his English teacher´s room on a Sunday? Over the past few weeks, a few minor things also hint as to something weird happening between those two. His friends teasing him by calling him her name at times. His English class is right before mine and every day now he walks in a little late or right at the bell. I´m thinking he stays after class with her for those 6 minutes...I don´t know. I get the vive from his friends and classmates that they know something. The teasing, the giggling, calling him by her name and his male friends treating him like a mini hero.
I have not said anything to him but after that Sunday incident, his attitude towards me changed. He used to be very nice and friendly to me, last year and the beginning of this year he would greet me every day with a handshake or a fist pump. He would talk to me about his games etc. After that Sunday incident, he can´t even look me in the eye. He also skipped my class that Monday after the Sunday incident. When I saw back on Tuesday, he was more serious and did not say a word to me. Now he talks to me again but not like before, his demeanor is more quiet.
I don´t know what to do at this point. I don´t know if I should have reported the Sunday incident to an administrator, but on the other hand I have no proof that anything is going on, just an intuition. I don´t want to get involved in any gossip or get that young teacher in trouble. I worry about my student and my young colleague but he is already 18 years and she is a full grown adult. This may also be absolutely nothing and I may just be overthinking things. What would you guys do in a situation like this? Ignore it? Do I take the attitude that if something is going on, it´s none of my business and I should look the other way (they are both adults now)?

You are legally a mandatory reporter. You turning a blind eye can land you in trouble and cost you your career.
As a teacher this is why during breaks, lunch & after school. I am never Ali e with any less than 3 students. It's too dangerous for a false accusation.
This teacher needs to be reported.

I worry about it from the legal point of view, although I have not said a single word to anybody about this. Not the student, not the teacher, not even my family. I'm afraid that I may be making a big deal out of nothing. Perhaps there is an explanation as to why he was in her room on a Sunday after noon. The school is open campus with several buildings. Similar to a small college campus. There are cameras but only in general areas such as parking lots, busy hall ways, etc. The rooms don´t have alarms, you can just go in with your key. It is not uncommon for some teachers to go in a few hours on the weekends to prep for the week or finish up grading. My main thing is the age. They are both over 18 and thus consenting adults. That´s what puts me at ease. I don´t know that legally they can do anything to her anyway. They could probably fire her but I doubt any legal charges can be brought up. I feel like if I say something, I may cause a lot of problems for both of them and I would feel really bad if in fact nothing is going on and I may be just over thinking things. I agree, when I have students in my class during lunch, I leave the door open and try to be as transparent as possible to eliminate any possibilities of false accusations.

Every teacher knows it's illegal to have a sexual relationship with a student, regardless of the student's age. The concern is that one person in the relationship has a position of power over the other party. If you have something concrete, report it. If the only thing you have is his behavior is different and you saw a person peeking out of a window, keep your mouth shut.
I went to high school back in the 70's and there were a few of my classmates who got bj's from one of our female gym teachers in 10th grade. Were my classmates scarred for life? Hell no!! They bragged about it and nobody called the cops either. It was a badge of honor.
