is it about looking tough and seasoned or is there any real benefits?

and wear trucker hats... you're not allowed to run an ultra without a trucker hat.
clearly a natural way to measure testosterone levels in an athlete
trucker hats have big brims to shield the sun, ample head space to allow a cool air pocket and have mesh parts to allow the head to cool in the wind, nothing wrong there

They try and live the dirtbag bohemian lifestyle. kinda like me when i was a climber.
I also find the trucker hat thing odd because that was a big trendy thing for Frat Boys to wear about a decade or so back.
I really want to know how trucker hats went from:
Truckers, to Frat Boys, and now to Ultra Runners.
There is a doctoral dissertation in here somewhere if any of you are Sociology or even Anthropology majors.
We all know what world class track runners look like:

Trucker hats have been a 'fashion' item in the Rocky Mountain region for a few years now. Trail runners, skiers, bikers, fly fishermen and women, rafters, beer drinkers, etc. Just a trend. Something else will replace it at some point.
Not sure why it bothers others so much.

LOL - this guy probably has 8 different trucker hats in his closet right now.
No, really they are cool, even Rocky Mountain "beer drinkers" wear them!
Thanks for the chuckle, rubber ducky.

You sound like a whiny little biatch tyrone
Ohhhh, does it bother you that some of us wear trucker hats? A little insecure in your own world, are you? That's cute.
I'm glad you're such an enlightened soul that has nothing in his closet having to do with a style or a brand.
Not always
Wow, a lot of ultra runners are overly defensive about their Trucker Hats.
Keep on truckin'!
I haven't been around ultra races in some time, but just looked through some western states and leadville photos and determined that the basis of this thread is a myth. There doesn't seem to be any significant trend towards the hobo w/ trucker hat look among ultra runners. Maybe the industry has decided that that is a marketable look and so it appears disproportionately in advertising photos? Whatever the reason, it doesn't reflect reality.
Do trucker hats bother you too? Are your feelings hurt? Would you feel better about yourself if we stopped wearing trucker hats? What kind of hat would be acceptable to you?
Not an ultra guy, by the way.

So not an ultra guy but you do own multiple trucker hats, got it. I understand your defensiveness now.
