High School coaches, what type of strength exercises/workouts do you have your athletes doing? Currently I've just been doing free body weight stuff like push ups, sits ups, etc. Does anyone use the weight room for their HS athletes? Personally I've never been a fan of the weight room while I was training but I don't want to use my biased opinion to train other athletes
Add lunges, step ups, deadlift variations, pull ups and toes if not already. That's all you need. If you have access to a good weight room and a coach who can teach olympic type lifting it might help but it's not something you need.
That is a great question. I have some tri experience. Working on Wall Street and all, we got to do a number of those. Now that I am a HS track & XC coach, I want to find out like, how do you coach?
I had some former seals/rangers in my team so I am familiar with the tough love sort of thing.

Early Season: body weight including planks, push-ups, wall sits, body squats.
Mid Season: variation of single leg squats including split squats, single leg hinges, single leg squat holds, ect.
Late Season: variation of single leg plyos including single leg hops for distance, single leg hops for height, etc.
I believe I got all the squat & plyos from Owen Anderson. I bet if you google searched, you could find his progression.

I like this approach above. I would also suggest the online NFHS Strength and Conditioning course if you've not already taken it. It's pretty good and though online, allows you to say you've have some formal instruction in this regard.
I´m not a coach, but in my opinion all depends what an individual has done in the past. General body strength circuits with many different exercises are the prequisite before moving to lifting and more spesific strength work. You can do a lot of general body strength on your feet (emphasizing one leg exercises), lunge walks, lunges, bulgarian split squats, heel raises, all of these builds the strength of core as well and the little balancing muscles. Uphill sprints, sprints, sprint drills. Then these burpees etc, elastic boundings (not aiming to max effort, instead aim to quick, elastic movements, sprint drills also includes this kind of work).
