Best classic running singlets ever-

Does anyone remember some of those Santa Monica Track Club unis, especially the fleshcolored thing they wore in a 4x200 at the Penn Relays?

I have spent much of the past 2 decades trying to forget those obscenities. Almost succeeded, and now you've brought the horrible memories crashing back into my consciousness. Thanks a bunch.

Florida TC, block letter "FLORIDA" around an orange were pretty cool back in the 70s, thanks to Shorter and the gang.

Back in the daay, a few of us on our XC team actually silkscreened some of the Fern singlets, and actually had a few folks in all-comer's meets think we were Kiwis, (until we ran)

I always liked the British banding/insignia around the chest, down the shorts outseam.

what's classic is how RELAXED Snell looks in that photo while everyone else is huffin' and puffin', with the possible exception of that guy in the Kiwi outfit on left

is that Bill Baillie? (sp)

I've got one of those...given to me by Lorraine Moller when we were in Seoul at the '88 Games...she did a little better in Barcelona (bronze)

No, the Kiwi in the photo behind Snell is John Davies, who won the bronze medal in that race ('64 1500). Bill Baillie ran the 5000 in '64.

To answer the original question:

1. The NZ black vest, of course.

2. The old Kenya kit: white vest with insignia and green shorts (think Keino in '72).

3. The Great Britain vest, white with a red and a blue stripe in across the chest (The Coe and Ovett '80).

4. The Japanese vest, white with a diagonal red stripe and the rising son insignia in the upper corner (Toshihiko Seko and multiple others).

5. Two old U.S. vests:

A. The blue one with USA across the front, coupled with white shorts (e.g. '64 and '68 -- Billy Mills, Bob Hayes, Bill Toomey, Bob Beamon).

B. The very old white vest with, I think, a diagonal stripe and a American shield-style insignia in one corner (Jesse Owens -- someone may want to correct me on the details of this one).
