I would like to know how often is *too* often? Any side effects with running?

Only once. I randomly got backed up in the days leading up to a half marathon so i was taking every laxative you can think of to try and relieve myself. They didnt work and the morning of the race i was scared of what might happen so i took a double dose of immodium. Race went fine surprisingly
Anyways, i had metamusil later that night (which i should have done from the start) and the next morning took the most epic poop of my life. From everything ive read since then, laxatives are a bad option most of the time
I take a stool softener about 13 hours before the start of races. It usually works and I show up feelin' light.
I'm old and I've never taken one.. I think I'd fear an overreaction.
I had a large kale and beet juice , and had a full evacuation in 3 hours. Everything came out including 5 year old undigested red meat stuck in my colon.
I have a lot of stomach/digestive issues and probably have to take once every 2 weeks. Not sure how much is too much-i would follow what it says on the box. I take 2 Ducolux (stimulant laxative)-so it gets the job done within 6-7 hours and leaves you pretty empty. hasn't had major side effects for running, I just plan my running before the medicine starts to kick in. Because I really don't have energy after everything goes through.

Mate that is the funniest thing I have heard all day.
Trust me beet juice is yuck. Kiwifruit and prune juice should do the trick.
Every three years before my colonoscop I flush the lines. 8oz miralax, plus a bottle of magnesium citrate = clean as a whistle.

I am 61 and have also never taken one for the same reason. (Though I'm probably older than you, I hesitate to call myself old.)
