He won this thing as a freshman 3 years ago and every year since. He crushed Tiernan last year.
Do you think he's been coasting on his training this year, thinking it would be easy, or did Tiernan really step it up?

His training has been subpar ever since the election - worried about being deported.

0/10, I think that he took it easy the whole way through training wise, he did say in the Flotrack interview that something was tight (can't remember) but he felt just ok
To win NCAAs, even if you are King Chese you need to be close to 100%. I don't think it's anything to be worried about.
Surprised there aren't more big upsets on the track when you think about it with guys being off etc. I think cross is even more unforgiving.
I agree. D1 nationals is always won by a black guy. That's the way it is supposed to be. There has to be an explanation for why a white guy won.
Goucher, Ritz, those races must of been fixed
Only in the racist US would people even think like that.
Dude...pick up on sarcasm. And don't paint a great country with a broad brush.
Or the fact that the 3 time defending champion in the best shape ever, lost to someone he has always beaten in the past. But no, Americans are just confused why a white guy won.
I was happy to see him get beat after he thought he had it in the bag. Early on he was looking around, yucking it up, smiling thinking he was just playing with the field. Then the race began.
It's racist to suggest black people are fast and good at running? Lol ok.
Can we please stop with the "king" ches BS, finally?
I think what folks never seem to get is how hard it is to run the NCAA XC meet, in general. If you ask a lot of folks who would know better than me, they would say that it is the hardest race to run well at by far.Plenty of other guys had so-so days and the margin from Tiernan to some really good guys is pretty large,.
I also think Tiernan is way better than people have thought, he ran 13:20 last year and even ran 13:28 in Olympic prelims tactical race and did not get thru.
The last 5K for Tiernan was 14 flat I believe, that is some serious ratcheting down from 15:17 first K.
All three of them dropped the entire field easily, once the move began.
Tiernan ran a brilliant race that must have hurt Ches , just a bit too much today, he also took the sting out of Knight's last 600M as well, so it was not just guys folding it up, or hurt or not right.
It was a concerted effort that worked to perfection.
Got devastated.
What I think is ... Tiernan is no joke. If y'al remember last fall when he boldly lead all the way through 8km solo. Today was payback and restitution; no stupid moves early with a deadly second half that broke Ches.
I saw the winning time and I was like King Ches could jog that just had a bad race it happens.
Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.

Couldn't of said it better myself. At least I didn't have to see him flap his stupid little arms and fiddle with his shorts at the end.
King Ches was paid off by the nike elite to lose the race. You have to remember Oregon = Nike college. Just like Duke Blue Devils are owned by Disney. Think about it. Disney owns ESPN and ESPN shows Duke Blue Devils games every chance they get. You have to remember there are greater forces of evil at work in this world. Think about it
