Question to whomever:
I have been running competitively for about 4 years. Started running when I was 29 seriously (now 33). Anyways... almost every time I race more than 10 miles I always seem to get severe pain under the rib cage. It only occurs during long sustained hard efforts and is usually the right side. This pain is debilitating and always causes me to slow down.
I eat very healthy and have a good intake of potassium, calcium, and sodium. I think I could probably up the water intake throughout the day but I regularly drink close to 2L. I never eat within 2hours of a race or hard effort and only hydrate by taking little amounts of fluid.
Pre race warm up consists of a fair amount of upper body and stomach stretching as well. Really getting tired of being on pace for some quick times and then having to slow down because of pain. Can anybody suggest something that may help prevent this cramps for occurring. Thanks.
