It seems that Bolt could continue for a few more years.
It seems that Bolt could continue for a few more years.
The premise that he has to retire is faulty.
what about all the others (like, literally ALL the other world class sprinters) that don't PR at 40?
He's won 9 Olympic golds spanning 3 games, has been running world class times since the age of 15 and is quite patently getting slower, albeit still as the fastest man in the world. Why shouldn't he retire? What else does he have to gain? He's sure as hell not going to be beating his WR's again
Lagat and El Gurrouj are the same age. Both born in 1974.
El G retired in 2004 and Lagat almost got a medal in 2016.

Niggling injuries slow fast people down. Losing 5s yard in the 1500 is not the same as losing a yard in the 100. It ends your 100 career.
Its a gunfighter mentality. Eventually you've had enough. Plus, what more does he achieve?

Probably wants to go out on top. 4 more years of intense training and competition can wear you down, no guarantees after age 30.
