Howdy
I'm a high school senior now in the process of deciding where I will go to college. One of my top schools is the University of Richmond. They only have a men's XC team, as the guys do road and mountain races in the spring rather than track. I've been running XC and track for 6 years and have always enjoyed it, but in college I would prefer the flexibility of training for road races on my own rather than the stress associated with NCAA training and racing. However, I do love being on a team and can see the fun in competing on the actual school team rather than a club.
Would it be possible to go UR freshman year, run on my own and train for longer distances, and then try to walk on my sophomore year if I'm interested? Has anyone done anything similar?
Walk-on standards are listed on their website as 4:30/9:45.
My current PRs (keep in mind I still have one track season left):
1600: 4:52
3200: 10:31
3 Mile XC: 16:30
10k: 36:27
