Is this a good idea?
I'm doing this next week in preparation for a road 5K at the end of the week.
PR?

PR?
I started the strides yesterday, 9 miles. I'll do this through Thursday. Friday, just 4 miles of strides. IRace is this Saturday.
Legs feel snappier than ever.
Am I a genius?
WTF Hey man you dont know what works till you try it XD
explain what you consider a stride
to me a stride is 80-120 meters at 800-mile pace, with either a few seconds of standing recovery or jogging. 40 miles of that sounds like a recipe for disaster What are you doing?
By stride, I mean 5 to 10 meters jogging, 20 to 30 seconds at 800 race pace but with a quicker, lighter leg cycle, then 10 to 20 meters jogging for recovery. Repeat for 9 miles total. That's my workouts this week, Monday through Thursday.
I'm really thinking 5K PR on Saturday! Feeling great!
If this aint a troll tell us how it goes lmao if you are a highschooler i would be praying that my coach doesn't find me doing this especially if it is the reason I bomb the state meat.
I dont see how that's sustainable for very long. To think differently you're doing roughly 45% of your 40 miles at 800m pace. Can't see how long anyone can last doing that.

So far so good. Wish I'd tried this earlier. I think it's a hack.
I saw this somewhere, someone said they won their state meet doing only strides the week before. I'm gonna look for the thread.
I went from a 16:19 to 15:55 PR in 2 weeks by tapering down and doing nothing but strides. I went from about 65 mpw to 20 mpw. Had one really good goal race and then ran like absolute crap for 2 months after it, but it was worth it.

This is what I'm talking about!!!!!!
My PR is 16:15, road. I'm really looking for sub 16 now!!!!
You might have a shot, but you're putting all your eggs in one basket.
For more info on mine, I ran super consistently between 16:20-16:30 all year on 50mpw. Brought it up to 65 and then tapered down by cutting out all easy runs and long runs. I did only 20 mpw for two weeks on only quality stuff, then ran 15:55. Some people say don't bother tapering for 5k but it sure as heck worked for me.

There's nothing surprising about this. You expect that a bunch of easy runs in the last 2 weeks before a race will help you get faster? No way. But lots of speedwork without much strain could in fact do something.

In other words:
9 miles nonstop:
1) 20-30seconds @ 800meters race pace / 5-10 meters jog
2) 20-30seconds @ 800meters race pace / 10-20 meters jog
Repeat
You´re in shape.
last 4 days of 9 mile strides has been great, feeling real snappy
tapering tomorrow, just 4 miles
saturday morning 5k road race
gonna crack that PR!!!
Strides, baby!!!!! All strides!!!!

nope, i'm a moran
i'm reading about him now
thanks
how'd it go?
you are seriously covering 60-70x150-200m@800m pace seven days a week?
9 miles divided by 170 is about 85 iterations. Of course, if this were daily, that would be 63 miles per week.
Poorly thought out troll job. Obviously he would be setting consecutive 5k PRs every day if his pace and rests were actually as stated.
