We've seen him do a lot with a little, a lot with a lot, and seems to always be in the mix on either the women's or men's side every year.
He gets great talent to come out, which is something most coaches can't always do, but his success with recruiting is a direct result of his success as a coach.
Is Mark Wetmore the greatest D1 NCAA XC coach of all time??

Doesn't come close to what Bowerman did. Bowerman worked with athletes of all talent levels and got the best from them. Distance, sprints, field events.
Bowerman would piss on Wetmore. (Had to include this to circumvent the person who always posts about Bowerman pissing on people in the shower whenever a Bowerman reference appears on LRC). -
Remind me again how many championships he's won.

I don't know if he's the greatest D1 XC coach of all time. There are certainly guys with more wins: http://www.ncaa.com/history/cross-country-men/d1. But, to me, Mcdonnell and Banks did it in an era when XC was less competitive. Now, there's a ton of parity.
I do think he's the best developer of D1 XC male (and female?) talent in this millennia. -
To the dude who said Bowerman did it with distance, sprints, etc. Bowerman DID NOT coach anything but the distance runners. But he was excellent at doing that. I'm not sure how anyone could argue that John McDonnell was the greatest of all time. What he did is amazing. And Ted Banks did it with older Kenyan runners who were already good when they arrived at UTEP. That doesn't mean he didn't do a good job, since he did. But it make no difference that cross country wasn't that big back then. With todays NCAA rules Banks could not have done what he did. Wetmore - Mark is a great, great coach, who has stuck by his formula, and not varied. If Mark wanted to recruit internationally he could have a much better program (although it pretty darn good right now). When Marks career is completed I would say he is the #2 greatest coach (DI) behind McDonnell. But there are plenty of great DII and DIII coaches who have accomplished a lot. So this discussion is clearly about DI. Oh, and I am an old enough coach to have been around for Banks, McDonnell, and Wetmore.

Wetmore is better than Bowerman. He also competes against foreign athletes and does not dope his athletes. Oregon has been a doping school for decades.

Wetmore is a great coach, but do his numbers top John McDonnell at Arkansas?

Still have to go with Wetmore.

I love Wetmore but his dynasty didn't start until Vin and John left coaching. He was outside looking in for years while the Cardinal and Razorbacks dukes it out. Colorado starting building at the end of their rein but the best thing that ever happened to Colorado is when those two coaches left.

Didn't Wetmore beat Vin when he was at Oregon? Honestly asking.

Does this list come in female too? -
Given his lifestyle, Wetmore could be coaching for another 15 years.

Damon Martin > Mark Wetmore

According to "Bowerman" by Kenny Moore- he coached NCAA champions in just about every event- if he didn't- who did? Did he not coach Mac Wilkins?
-
No, not even close. Thread over.

How many titles does Wetmore have, M/W?
-
Bowerman was such a good all-around coach, he even coached his high school football team to the championship game
-
Maybe now, but not for long. Next year that Harvard coach will surely take his magical touch to DI.
