Dear LRC friends:
I used to be quite poor, and my running socks were whatever 12- pack was on clearance at the Nike outlet. These are no longer serving me well. Shrunk too much in the wash, wore quickly, poor fit.
I am now less poor, and can afford better gear. Is there any consensus on the best running socks these days?

they are not very durable. but youre not poor anymore so who cares.
Or the thick Nike ones. Cushion Elite, something like that.
The C9 socks at Target are nice if you like a thin sock. The Hanes there are good also. I have some balega in a variety of thicknesses. They are not so much better than C9 or Hanes that I'll buy any more once these wear out. I still have some Nike socks from 2010. They are a little thin in spots but still work well.
Overall, socks should be the last thing you obsess over. I was happier when I didn't wear socks at all. One less thing to buy and wash.

I've become a total convert to Injinji five-toe socks.
Totally eliminates chafing, hot spots, blisters, etc. (on the *toes* anyway!)
Smartwool. Also made from Merlino wool. Not as durable, but great socks.
Swiftwick Pursuit 1 or 2 (wool) for general use
Darn Tough Vertex Wool Ultralight or Swiftwick Aspire 1 for racing.
