The very fastest guys would be 10.5-6 if you had them from blocks and FAT timing.

They once did a special race for rugby league in Australia where the very fastest guys wore spikes and raced. All my rugby friends thought that 10.3 or so would be the winning time. 11.0 won it - and those are speed/power guys!

Given that there is a much bigger talent pool in soccer I would say the outliers are 10.6. Average probably closer to 12.0.

Also can tell you know nothing about sprinting since you listed a way faster 200m time but then a slower 400?

13/28/62 for the 100/200/400

A lot of elite and pro soccer players could be pretty good 800 runners (1:50ish) with only a little specific training. They're aerobically fit and very explosive.

The AVERAGE sprint times across all of soccer would be much slower than the times posted around here. There are lots and lots of very slow players and only a few reasonably fast ones.

Soccer is a highly skilled sport, not a highly physical one. They aren't track athletes.

This suggests high 11's here.

fastest 10% would hit 55 for 400, average player longer, the average of all players even longer.

sprint and jog does not automatically turn to special endurance2 (the type of speed endurance you need for 400m running)

I'm not sure people understand how different a sustained sprint is from the type of movements that athletes do in the popular ball sports.

I was going to guess 12.0 (maybe a tad under), 24, maybe 53.

Take any reasonable high school, and get the varsity soccer team to try out for track. The top few guys will run 13 in trainers as reps. Faster guys will run 11-high or 12-low in spikes, and 23-low or mid. There's a few 15-17yr olds who focus on soccer with this kind of speed at pretty much every high school.

Soccer has the highest talent pool of any sport in the world. You think Premier League pros who work on their speed every day of the year are running 13 for the 100m? There have been guys in the Premier League who ran legitimate 10.3-10.4 and still aren't even the fastest across the field.

Soccer/football has nothing to do with "the popular ball sports". Soccer is THE popular ball sport. The games played in the USA that reward freakish weight and/or height are in a different category, and yes I would expect most of those circus "athletes" to struggle to hit 28/200m on average.

For the people who say that most soccer players are slow, I call bullshit. I'd be willing to bet that players like Gareth Bale or Theo Walcott has run pretty close to 12 seconds pace for 40-50 meters DURING a game.

I was a mediocre player on a decent team (state champions a few times in the club system). I was probably fastest/2nd fastest on team, definitely some of the california teams had wayyy faster players than me. I started running track my freshman year hs and ran 54/1:59 w/o too much training.

Aka a lot of the better players easily are running ~50s quickly, sub 2, and probably 10.5 for elite to 11.5 for "fast" players.

Didn't Michael Owen run 10.8 as a 14 year old? I bet a good couple of dozen soccer players would be able to do less than 10. if trained a bit for it.

Im not sure if i recall correctly but theres a rumour that a very very talented jamaican soccer player has run 9.5X

that guy could have made it big in T&F but instead went for the big bucks in Manchester. cant blame him
