I'm 21 and before July I used to run only a couple of miles every now and then. I started to run a bit more seriously in July, averaging 55km / week.
I'm not interested in participating in races soon, but eventually, maybe in two years or three I want to run a fast marathon (at least sub 3).
How should I train given that I have so much time to prepare? Is it true that I should try to build an aerobic base by doing many long and easy run? Or should I try to do as much high intensity workouts as I can without getting injured? What about improving maximal speed?
When I started training I just ran 10km in about an hour and found it very hard (HR of 180 in the end). Now, after having read some advice, I do easy runs, a long slow run during the weekend (usually a HM, last time was two weeks ago at about 5:30/km pace), and in the last two weeks also some high intesity workout. Today for example I did a 6x1000m at 5k pace (which now for me is 4:15/km) with 60 seconds jog recovery.
