Was debating with fellow track coach on how much time a rolling start would effect a 100m. He said a kid he had who ran 11.3ish hand time ran a 9.8 split on relay. Now I was willing to admit that optimistically he could maybe even have run 11.5 FAT but no way split 9.8. He then said it could have been only 95meters- not exactly 100m.
My question is what is the general rule of thumb for time altering based on a rolling start vs standing start. He wasn't a great starter but don't think it would have that big of impact.
I read all the time about it being 0.5 to 1.0 seconds but wanted to clarify with you guys and see if there was any actual research on it instead of just guesstimating.
