White US citizens, it is time for you to pay your reparations

Maybe instead of giving Israel $12 million every day we could use this money to help Americans suffering from the legacy of slavery and the ongoing systemic racism in our system?

Tons of money for rich Jews who live in a foreign nation but none for our fellow citizens?

While I agree about the money that is sent abroad, it's obvious that you don't see the irony in your post.

In 20 years this will probably be a reality. At my university they are currently claiming that being graded down for spelling or grammatical errors is racist. Correct me if I'm wrong, but what you are saying is: unless I have experienced and injustice firsthand, I can neither confirm nor deny that said injustice has occurred or does occur, and I cannot empathize with those who have experienced said injustice.

If everyone followed your logic, there would be far less charity in the world than there is (if any).

I am taken aback by your comment actually. How can I feel empathy for someone with cancer when I have not experienced cancer? How can I donate money to a cause which does not directly affect my livelihood? Is cancer even real? I've never had cancer...

This line of thinking is fallible for obvious reasons.

Also, "my life here" is the only life I've experienced. I was born in America, as were both of my parents. I am an American.

I'm not sure I understand your first point...

I have walked through black neighborhoods and applied for jobs where I compete against people from a minority group (I'm one of them, I identify as "hispanic or latino" on job applications). I have experienced racism "first hand," even if it wasn't directed at me (although I have been called spi* and wetbac* "in a joking manner" by people who feel they have the right to make those jokes).

Anyway, I don't understand your point. Are you saying, "go ahead and adopt a black baby and you will experience more racism?" If so, maybe... but what is your point?

i went to a JC for my first couple of years of school. The track and field team that I was a member of, was LARGELY black. I mean, to the tune of, I was the ONLY white athlete on the bus, and the other white folks were the HC, the asst. coach, trainer, and bus driver. That means that most often, the back 2/3's of the bus, was 20-30 young black athletes, and myself. Countless times, I heard conversation about "this fu-king white motherfu-ker", "that cracker", etc etc. And countless times they would catch themselves and say something like "not you, man... you're cool" Blah blah blah...

The point being... you can sit here and tell us that you've been there, you've seen it, and whatever. But, I'm here to tell you, I know for a fact that it exists 'on the other side'. And you cannot tell me that it doesn't. Oh, and also, I'm from the southwest... if you want to get into the things I heard from Mexicans about whites, let's get it.

The fact of the matter is, there are a lot of as-holes, out there... of every color.

Wow!! This article blew my mind. I'm sure few people here will actually read this. This shows that reparations isn't just about slavery 150 plus years ago. It's about systematic discrimination against blacks even 30 years ago, to which the government was sometimes overtly involved (like the real estate fraud, and discrimination which helped ghettoize blacks) or ignored. The government is responsible for protecting its citizens from terrorism and predation. It systematically failed to protect blacks through even the 20th c.

The US government should be held accountable. It is in other cases.

This isn't about making whites feel "guilty". It's about accountability and seeking justice. I'm white. I don't feel "guilt" I feel responsibility. I feel it's my duty as a human being to help end injustices against other humans. If my taxes go up a bit so what. We the people have had to pay off other white collar criminals actions (SnL bailout). We have bailed out sleazy banks. So why is it so hard to collectively do something about this stain on our society?

The US Govt owes reparations to Afro-Americans and Muslims in the Middle East.

funny story. A few years ago I visited New York with friends. For one night we had a room in Jamaica. We were the only whites there. At the morning there was a police control at the underground station and out of all the blacks we were singled out for a check. America is just very racist in all possible ways. race is so important for everything.
