I think you have responded too hastily. Do you want to continue living in a country that is constantly being berated about something that happened years ago, by people no longer alive? Something that nearly everyone in the country sees as embarrassing and terrible? No.
It is like watching the tumor on your arm continue to grow and grow and doing nothing about it. JUST GO GET THE DAMN THING CUT OFF AND BE DONE WITH IT!!!
So let's let the African-American leadership provide some tangible demands that will allow the descendants of slavery an equal chance at success. Let's hear them out.
If there is one thing I cannot stand, it is whining. I hear it from my kids and I say, what do you want? What will make it better? If they can provide an answer, I will work with them to satisfy their needs. If they just continue whining, I know they are tired and I send them to their room. The latter is not productive, and it is where we currently stand as a society. Let's go with the former and be done with it. Let's move past this disastrous mistake that we made and get things on track.
From an economic standpoint, it will be the right decision. Our welfare system is a broken mess and it needs to be addressed. Instead of wasting money paying year-after-year for this crap, let's enable those in poverty who are their as a result of slavery and racism to pull themselves out of the mess and become productive citizens. It is what we all want. It is what we all need.
Those who do nothing to help themselves after reparations are going to be left to their own devices. Nothing will help them.
