Buffalo = Most Cursed City in the World

I just recently moved to Buffalo. I hate it! I really don't care too much about Buffalo sports, but I can tell you that Buffalo weather is definitly something to curse at.

you won't be bitching about the weather this summer when you can actually run at any time of the day and sleep at night with the windows open and no a.c.

i am sure i know where this thread is going, as everyone loves to pile on my old hometown. but i too was watching the game saturday and i thought of the curse as soon as that ball rolled in with .5 secs remaining. unbelievable.

we need at least one sports team named after jay gatsby or the green light..."one fine day..." and all that shit...

Another Buffalo native, here (Lancaster, actually). I was sad to see the Bulls not get into the tourney. It's weird hearing people say "Buffalo" and not UB!

You've forgotten a couple low points in Buffalo sports history....the "Fog" game in the Stanley Cup finals in the '70s and the NBA Braves leaving town to become the Clippers.

Buffalo is a great sports town and will always be passionate about the Bills. Let's just hope they don't move to LA or Toronto...(yikes!)

Buffalo was 22-9 and an RPI of 27??? I think the RPI needs to be "re-tweaked". The MAC isn't that good.

While I'm not from Buffalo, I'm not too far off (Rochester). And I totally agree about the weather. Sure, its kinda crappy in the winter and whatnot, but I really really like the summer and fall out here. Except when it gets really humid, thats not so much fun.

it's just my opinion of course, but to me, those poor bastards up in the north country (plattsburg, canton, etc) have it way worse weather-wise than i ever did growing up in WNY. it just gets way too cold up there.

In Western New York, winter is not a season. It is a lifestyle. But upstaters in Canton and Watertown do have it much worse than us. Ever since the blizzard of 77, Buffalo has gotten a bad rap.

You have not even mentioned the suffocating tax burden of those in Erie County (and the rest of New York State, for that matter.) Buffalo is cursed with WAY more than unfortunate sporting moments.

I'm working on my company to transfer me to another state...or I'm leaving the company and finding another job in a different state. In either way, I'm done with New York and I'm never coming back.

We lost the series, though, and it was pretty bizzare...

I actually have some experience with north country winters, as I went to college in Potsdam. Comparing the two, it really depends on what you dislike more, snow or cold. Personally I don't like cold, but I hate snow. I also don't know what Buffalo people are complaining about with their sports teams. First of all, the UB Bulls are minor college basketball, it's not important. The Sabres, its Hockey, no one cares! The Bills losing 4 super bowls in a row, yeah that had to suck, but there are a lot of teams that have never won a superbowl, or never even gotten to one that could claim they are equally as "cursed". Face it, Buffalo is a minor league sports town, thats had some minor league bad luck. If the Bills won the superbowl next year, would they get SI men of the year, like the Red Sox did, when they finally won? No of course not, because nobody cares about Buffalo.

I grew up in Buffalo, moved when I was 17 and there's no way I'd ever move back. Too cold, snowy and bleak from November to April.

Having said that, the best thing about the city are its people -- down to earth, friendly, real salt of the earth sort of folks. Some of the areas outside the city are gorgeous -- nice woodlands and parks, and some decent waterfront areas. I don't think the quality of life there is lower than many northeastern cities of its size.

Sorry, but I'd have to disagree with your subject. Buffalo is not cursed. Well, it is if you have never been to a third world country. Do you have to worry about being raped at night or about being bombed? Do you have to worry about a dictator who will kill you for speaking your mind?

Erie County = Political Patronage = Government Run As A Family Business. I say give the county to the Indians. They will turn a profit within a year.

to buffalo's credit, the Buffalo Bison, a AA? baseball team won the national championship last year, and a few years ago.

but to pile on the -skrewed references...

Buffalo had to consider closing all libraries after dec 31 because of tax (thankfully they are still open with cut back hours and staff)

and the most recent asinine local government move has been to close all erie county state parks (lay off workers, arrest tresspassers)

so basically, come to buffalo :)

the snow is pretty fun when you're a kid

Go out to Chesnut Ridge Park in Orchard Park outside of Buffalo(straight out 277 or Union Rd as it's called).Any day is good--but right now Saturday and Sunday morning are best--8am or 9am

Run in Delaware Park every afternoon during the x-country season which is just starting up--people are there training for fall marathons.Go to these two places and you'll feel the passion for running--I assume you run.Screw pro sports--it's just one big ripp-off.

The only thing that sucks about Buffalo is occasionally the weather--it's got a more active and varied racing scene than anything in N.C.

buffaloe's summer may be durable, but winter absolutely sucks.
