Well, yes, unless they stole from a 400 runner... The XC runner could never gap them, and the bigger, stronger quarter miler would then pound your Fast Bandit into a puddle of skin and bone.

While I typically agree with this, kid I had graduate 7 years ago was the EXACT opposite. Now granted he was only a 19:55 guy so not a stud runner but he did bench 375 in hs (weighed 220). It was fun having him at meets because he was so huge people would stop mid sentence to watch him go by.
So I guess there are some exceptions. Pretty much all of my other kids fit the skinny little xc kid stereotype.
Was working at a gas station. First day of work after missing a week with mono. Was really weak.
Some dude grabbed ten packs of cigarettes from the display and took off.
I ran after him. It took me a couple blocks to catch up to him because I wasn't fully recovered from the mono. When he saw how close I was he dropped all the cigarettes and kept running. Luckily no physical confrontation, in my condition he probably would have kicked my ass.
All you have to do is get close enough to follow but far enough away they keep running (thinking they are getting away). Before long they will be out of breath and barely able to stand. Easy pickings at that point regardless how big they are.
Or just carry a gun.

Hmmm. So, if you see a skinny runner boy working at a gas station, you send one guy in to grab some smokes. Then when the kid chases him you smash open the cash register and clear out the liquor section.
