And if u go vegetarian and continue to consume dairy. What's the point? It's straight poison

I read Jurek's book "Eat and Run" and he said a vegetarian diet reduced inflammation, quickened recovery time, burnt excess fat, and gave him more energy on his runs. Anyone here vegetarian? What's good about it and what's bad? I've previously eaten meat typically with every meal, no dairy however. What can be used to replace meat if needed?
I'm not very interested in being vegan yet so don't bother. Oh and also I'm not doing this for the plight of farm animals, it's purely for my own health.
Meat eating is pretty difficult. It has lots of nutrition however and even if it didn't, the discipline alone would make you a better athlete and person. Plant foods and vegetarian exclusive diets are too easy and convenient a trap to fall into, with the 24 hour convenience around the country. Plant foods can clog arteries, cause headaches, result in belly fat, etc. However that could also be simple coincidence and correlation with consumption of alcohol, with bar food like veggie sliders, corn dogs, etc
Plant foods also cause a lot of environmental destruction: The pesticides and resources required plus forests destroyed and burrowing animals killed by farmland creation and maintenance, to name a few. Meat is also good for cancer patients. It's all too easy to fall into the habit of plant foods and green smoothies, especially after a long hard day at work, a tough workout or gym session or even long intense sex. It may seem a good idea because of the protein, but the tasteless meat is, while less glamorous , better for your spirit in the long run. Meat takes longer to digest so it will make your digestive system stronger. The plant food lobby is huge and can be over zealous about the benefits. But just think of the brojos and usain bolt. It's no coincidence chicken wings and chicken mc nuggets are In the diet of world champions.
The main con is having to eat all those disgusting vegetables. That's why nearly everyone who does has to add herbs, spices, or sauces to give it flavor or mask bad flavor.
If you think your ape ancestors had the time to go around hunting for oregano or whatever to chop up and sprinkle on their alfalfa sprouts, your brain is even smaller than theirs were! Any who tried were surely eaten by leopards. Possibly that's what drove the evolution of bigger brains.
Steak is delicious. Don't give up on them.

Then why do you DOUSE meat with oil, salt, sugar and spices, and eat your meat sandwiches with onions, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, mustard and ketchup between two slices of bread? Why not simply eat a cow's leg or belly AS IS? Dig your teeth into that stuff and have the blood juices squirt all over your face and down your throat. Why cook meat and DRESS IT UP as something it ain't? Next time you're hungry, tackle, kill and devour the first animal you see like the carnivore you claim to be. Oh yeah, I forgot, you are an herbivore DRESSING UP as a carnivore, which means you are fake, fake, fake.
Why is it so difficult for you to understand that every meat, dairy and egg-eater is ADDICTED to animal products because of how it’s DRESSED UP?
Do you really think our ape ancestors who had yet to invent a spear and fire had time to go around hunting when we can't even catch a rabbit without tools. When raw fruit doesn't run away and tastes 9999x better than raw meat.

I'm a vegetarian and have no problem recovering but use whey protein between workouts of course. It won't change your body fat percentage. You'll need to take a b12 supplement or rely on eggs cheese and whey protein for b12 (or drink red bull).
Have to agree with this. A bit of b12 and lift weights too, dont just run, you might like to cut back on running since it beats up the body a bit.
I can't respond to everyone (because LR's message board is complete s*** when it comes to replying and seeing conversation threads) so I'll just address some things
1) Protien - I've heard from some sources that broccoli has more protien per gram than beef. Not sure if it's true or not but I do eat lots of broccoli. Plus it's true most Americans get waaaay more protein than they actually need a day.
2) Iron - I used to take iron supplements, but no longer do because it's not great for being regular while using the bathroom. I know spinach has lots of iron, and if I do go meatless I'll have a spinach salad once a day. Not sure if that's enough but it's a start
3) B12 - I take a multivitamin.
4) Taste - inconsequential. Vegetables taste good.
5) Body fat - the guy who said he gained weight after going vegetarian must have eaten nothing but cheese pizza and potato chips, or he's full of it.
Which brings me to my last point - how can I do this without eating too many carbs and keeping a good ratio of macros?
Humans did not evolve to the top of the food chain so they could pick lettuce and eat salads. Enjoy your human privilege and eat a hamburger.

Follow the Paleo diet, and you will be buff!
You wouldn't be able to have roast prime rib of beef au jus.

BUT...
it will NOT help your body composition. if anything, you'll increase your body fat %. if you want low BF, follow a typical bodybuilding diet: increase protein to 30%, reduce carbs, and increase F.
.
where did you dream this up?? Cross Fit Paleo duded are not "typical bodybuilders." Typical bodybuilding diet does NOT reduce carbs and increase fat. Nope, no way (not saying none of them do this, just that it isn't "typical." there are of course many diets used, but most are, yes, very high protein, but higher carb, lower fat)
yep...increased from 6% to 8% (and that was measured three times, 1 MD and 2 trainers, through three methods). So yeah...I got to 8% BF. What are you at? Like 23%?

and gotta tell you...I often see your name ("Tyrone Rexxing") on nutrition threads...when I do, I immediately skip to the next. You must be one of the most uninformed posters on this topic - and that's saying a lot.(

The only nutrients you can't get from plants are:
B12.
Comes from neither animals nor plants but earth spanning bacteria. Since our water is chlorinated and our food is washed and never picked fresh we need supplements. We would of gotten it drinking out of streams/wells and organic food. The only reason animals contain B12 is from injections by the farmers and their intrinsic B12 however it is destroyed by heat. 1/6 in the population are deficient.
Vitamin D.
Plenty of others as well. A good recent article on DHA:
