Do you guys bring your phones out to a half-marathon to communicate with people afterwards? I don't particularly want to run with it ... but what's the alternative? Put it in gear check and hope it's there later? Armband it? Leave it at home?
Maybe I should find a bar with one of those phone storing devices ...
What to do with phone during half-marathon?

There are like 1000 options. Are you new at this? This is not a complicated thing.
Spi belt or water fuel belt is usually the most popular of choice. Also hand straps are getting more popular too. -
You have a rectum.....use it.

Geez. You really created a thread for this? -
Well I know it's easy to run with the phone and there are 1000 options ... I thought if you wanted to PR though, you could do without the weight ...

Maybe if you had a brick phone from 80's Wall Street. People have got to stop overthinking running lol. I race with my iPhone 99% of the time and have PR'd consistently in the last year, it weighs less than 3 gels. -
this question would probably be better suited for the letsyoj.com message boards.

Lol ... how many of those kenyans at the front do you see with a phone on their arm?
I'm not saying I'm that fast, but there you go. -
serious response to a troll post:
Leave it in your car or at bag check, UNLESS there is a reason to have it immediately after crossing the finish line (like connecting with a spouse at a large race, etc.) In that case, arm straps are nice. Some shorts that are designed for trail running have large pockets that are fairly large that are spandexed to your rear, so a phone wouldn't bounce around (check Pearl Izumi's Ultra Split shorts, for example.) -
Leave it at home. It has never even occurred to me to bring a phone to a road race.

hobby jogger
push it in a stroller -

Have you considered the drone-phone? It carries your phone for you, and you can retrieve it at the end of the race. -
The only race I would leave my cell phone with bag check is the Marine Corps marathon. UPS does the bag check for that race. Other races I've done I leave it in my car. A lot of bag checks are using teenagers & some sketchy characters. I wouldn't take the risk. Of course they wouldn't be able to use your phone assuming it's locked with a password. I don't want to waste my time going to my cell phone provider & getting a new phone etc. Sucks if your car is 5, 10 or 15 minutes away but it is what it is.
-
Look, the last thing anyone wants is a Facebook update about your pathetic finish time or a phone call to tell everyone how amazing you are. Nobody cares about your crappy race so do us all a favor and leave the phone at home

With this thinking it seemed you started the whole thread with a pre-conceived notion.
But again with the overthinking. Unless you ARE an elite at the front of the pack, running with a phone or having a beer the week before or drizzling a little honey on your cereal or wearing compression socks to bed while facing north - are all little things that do NOT matter. This is the difference a hobby jogger and a real runner. Hobby joggers overthink and overplan for things that simply, do not matter at all. -
We had to get rid of pay-phones in order to win THE WAR ON DRUGS ! dontchaknow!

How far is the finish line from your car? Why can't you just leave it in your car. Who do you need to communicate with? How far away is your car from the finish line?
I have put mine in bag check for larger races but there is a risk in that. I believe the last time I done that I used an older phone I still had laying around the house and swapped SIM cards. If I lost the phone, no big deal, just get a new SIM card.
Don't carry it. No reason for that at all. -
No need to have a phone to communicate with people afterwards, there will be people milling around all over, you can just walk up and talk to them in person.

Use the storage lockers, otherwise another trick is to thread your phone to your shoes with the shoe laces.
