got injured over track, but have been getting good summer training in. Is 450 solid mileage over the summer? I know a lot of guys get by 700, but 450 is solid?
ill be a junior in hs

It a team of 10 boys with a bit of talent did 450 miles in a summer (10 weeks) for four years that would be a very good HS team.
but for me going to my junior year is 450 good?
How many weeks is summer?
Depends on what you mean by summer?
12 Weeks? Eh not great
10 weeks? Better... not elite but pretty normal
8 weeks? that's good summer training.
I think it also depends how you got those 450 miles. As one poster said, 12 weeks of that mileage would be 37.5 a week. That's ok, but nothing to brag about.
But if you were coming back from injury and had a few weeks at 20 some miles, then some 30s and 40s, and then a few good weeks at 50+. That is better, too.
For now, though, don't worry about your summer base. Summer is over, so there isn't anything else you can do about it. Just feel good that you came back from your injury. Train smart this fall and stay healthy.
It was like starting low and then ive been by 50 for the last few weeks, it was like 11
I remember I ran over 400 miles the summer before my senior year in HS and thought it was amazing. I was in really good shape, and had a great year from my perspective.
I laughed about that going into my senior year of college when I ran about 430 miles in July alone.
So, yes, over 400 miles is great for a HS junior, keep working hard and increase that number every year and you will get rewarded.
that's not bad, but remember that mileage isn't everything
It depends on how much you have run before, on how hard you run those miles, on how much rest you get, and on how your body responds to training to begin with.
Also, you should not aim for a total, but rather a progression which makes sense. In general you should aim to add about 10-15 miles a week to mileage, but don't do it all at once. If you're run 30 mpw in the past, the gradually build up over the entire summer to you are up to about 45 by the end.
This might come out to an average of 37-40 per week. However, those 45 miles should now feel decent. It should not leave you wiped out or exhausted (which it might if you just jumped from 30 to 45).
The same approach applies if your previous mileage was 25, 35, or 40. I'm assuming it's somewhere in this range. If you were less - say less than 20, then you should be able to jump up more than 15. More like 20. Maybe all the way to 25 to get close to 45.
I'd say in general, never increase your mileage from week to week more than 5 mpw- (unless you toke a break and are building back up to your previous level. For example, if you used to run 35 miles a week, and you've taken a 3 week break, you can run 15 miles the first week. 30 the second, then 35, then level off and gradually start added, dropping back if/when you need to.
By the end of HS, you should be aiming to be somewhere in the 60-75 mpw range. If you are serious about running.
yes, 50 is comfortable now, I think ill peak at about 60 this year, maybe a little less and then be in that 60 to 70 range next year. I have never done above 30 mpw before this year, so I'm hoping for some PR's, do you think its a given that this will be a good year because of the jump in mileage if I stay healthy and get good rest
