Do you have any idea what is it under Kipchoge's skin on his thigh muscle? I remmember Martin Lel had similar thing.

It's a symptom of being doped to the gills.

Quad striations. Not surprising that someone who has likely been running 140mpw for the last 15 years would have ripped legs.

Lizard men, was watching Jesse Venture for a laugh one night and they had an episode about lizards who run the world but are camouflaged in human skin. Now we have proof. They do exist.
For being only 31 his face looks incredibly old. If you zoom in he looks like a 60 year old man. Like on old wise marathon Zen Mater.

I noticed his aged face, too.

He probably is 60 years old. Most of the Kenyan team this year was nearing 70 years of age, which explains their relatively poor showing compared to previous years.
To accurately calculate the age of a Kenyan, use the following conversion formula:
Real age = 2 x Official Age

I'm glad somebody else noticed this. I don't think I've ever seen that on a runner before.

I noticed this, too, on the slow motion video.
Glad someone started a thread.
To the idiot above, it's not just being "ripped"...look at the left leg in the pic. Do you even know where the "quads" run?
If you look at this picture, you will notice the same thing on Martin's Lel thigh.
Two easiest explanations are: some injections, some tribe specific customs (maybe they are from the same tribe)

It is the normal striations visible whenever you get sufficiently lean. As a fat liberal SJW, you wouldn't understand.

More likely a crocodile man. That way, he can also be doped to the gills.
Sorry, I meant salamander!
Muscles do have horizontal striations, but on a microscopic level. Maybe what we're seeing is the rectus femoris muscle recoiling.
All of you are idiots. Its skin wrinkling for a split second when the footstrikes.
Looks like a skin graft maybe.
Maybe the poster about the tribal thing is correct. It obviously doesn't bother him.

Your the moran, the foot hasn't struck yet!
Can't find this in any other pictures of him. But his skin looks pretty wrinkled in this one from Rio http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/08/21/17/3777B97C00000578-0-image-m-74_1471797907306.jpg

Only thing recoiling is your microscopic intellect.
Here are some similar striations ...
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4306503&d=1333469232Clearly a tribal surgical procedure...
If bodybuilders have these striations, could they be from drug use?
