Agree 100% with the 800m. Totally bizarre and just watching the race felt uncomfortable.

1. Crappy officiating- runners advanced when they shouldn't have been, runners DQed for questionable violations and runners DQed then unDQed,

2. Women's 800 for obvious reasons,

3. Ethiopian women runners - unbeatable world record holders suddenly become beatable after their coach busted for PEDs; world 10k record by obvious druggie destroyed by runner who then can barely run the same pace for 5k.

maybe she still hadn't recovered from her WR 10k race, and simply ran out of gas during the 5k. just saying . . . .

Not to be a snob but how about the general lack of architecturally significant facilities?

Compared to other Olympic stadia, the Rio facilities were an abomination.

Has anyone done the Google Earth facility tour? Beyond the camera lens there was chain link fence everywhere. Not just for construction progress...but as a final barrier.

Also that quasi tunnel the finalists came out of was weak. Visible plywood...looked like a Jr. High Shop project....

Japan is going through some problems with their big stadium but they're setting the bar really high.

Having an architecturally significant building could help with attendance...but it's just a small piece of the problem. Most of the people in Brazil don't have the money to spend $50+ for a ticket each night for track. Japan will sell it out every night in 2020.

1. Both 1500s were weird, especially the collapse of GDibaba and the futility of Kiprop.

2. The sudden relative decline of the US women in the 800 - not just Semenya et al, but the Canadians and British also seem to have elevated their game. The dominance of Kate Grace in the US is not reassuring.

3. The continuing sad saga of the US 4x100. Without a stupendous acting job by Felix both would have DQ'd. (Reluctantly give Mitchell credit for switching Prandini out of the relay).

4. The men's sprints were slow - Bolt has absolute mental powers over the US. I think the Jamaicans are right in saying that's the cause of the US futility in the relay.

Agreed. The slip was obviously a real slip which scared for a second. Once he realized he was ok, he crawled across the line and did his thing. The real race was already over and he did not impede anyone so figured he'd have some fun while not showing anyone up. Not bad for a guy who had a disappointing race in his final Olympics.

"Her" celebration after the fact, stomping around and beating her chest was like some nfl dude. Really ridiculous to even have to put up with such a farce.

Need to vent just a bit about having to watch almost ten minutes of the men's 4x1 teams standing around the tunnel waiting to come out and then learn the delay was because the women's vault was wrapping up. So they switch to the vault to show the American girls final attempt. We could have been watching that all along. The mind set of those making these calls always astonishes me. Watch a golf match and the cameras switch from one hole to another hole as qwkly as possible to show more golf action. Not track coverage - we have to watch guys in a tunnel for ten minutes then guys standing around their blocks for ten minutes while there are twenty cameras recording other live events we could be watching. GRRRRRRRR

I can't stand Salazar and the NOP but Rupp ran well. At this point, I have no doubt in my mind that T&F turned into cycling. Everyone is on something. It really is cheaters vs cheaters including Eulid.

I don't know about "genius", but I thought it was a cool spur of the moment move by Meb. The alternative was to get up and cross the finish line kind of sheepishly. But no, he knocks out a few pushups, gets up and crosses with a big smile on his face. That's an A+ way to finish your last Olympic race given that you just wiped out.

Meb has done push-ups before after finishing a race. It is one of his "things". So when he slipped it was a natural reaction from a small embarrassment.

1. Attendance at the T&F events looked abysmal

2. The antics of the Brazilian fans towards Renaud Lavillenie. He looked so uncomfortable on the medal podium the following day.

3. A marathon course with (what looked like multiple) 180 degree turns...and since when don't they finish in the Olympic Stadium?

I've always liked the stadium finish. But maybe they didn't want to show the runners finishing the race in an empty stadium. I used to think it was tough getting tickets to an Olympic event, but there were tons of empty seats for the T&F races.
