Is it time to have a talk with your women athletes about what happened in Rio?

Had this talk with my daughter, but my answer was really was just a stop gap measure. She still new to track (still in MS with a 2:23.8 800m PR) and after the Olymoic 800m she suggested to me she drop track and just focus on bball since there isnt a future for her in track because if the men.

My stop gap answer that satisfied her for now, 1) bball will allow men too and men will have even a bigger advantage playing bball and 2) we live Texas and the governor wont allow this happen here so she doesnt have to worry about it for now

Really glad we live in Texas and not Alaska as I think she would quit if she thought there was a chance she would have to race boys.

You would all do better to talk to your daughters about sexual harassment - the kind all over these boards by men who now appoint themselves the protectors and saviours of women's track.

Your daughter is unlikely to run in a race with Semenya. She is 100% likely to have sexual comments, hateful comments on her body, men evaluating her body, men dismissing her based on her looks, men commenting how they want to f*** her, men making gross jokes about her, men demeaning her accomplishments, etc. - all things that take place in every thread here about women.

If you really want to promote women in track, you should be speaking out about the way women are regularly treated and talked about on these boards. That has more impact on women and girls day to day than intersex runners.

That's where you are wrong. She should not be made to feel different or ostracized. She has every right to identify as a woman and run. CAS says so, and I'm sure they're more informed than anyone here.

Teach your daughters to be tolerant and accepting and maybe there is hope for future society.

I hope Hillary stacks the supreme court with justices who will knock down these barriers of discrimination.

Tolerant is fairness for women. Intolerance is stacking everything against women by putting men in their races, to wipe out women's sports, such that both the men and women division both are dominated by guys. This needs it's own thread. College costs these days will tempt a lot of people to do just that. Why be a walk on at 2:00 when you can gather up another title nine women's scholarship and go free? Excellent insight Uptown

Semenya is not a man. She is intersex. It will take time for the bureaucracy to get this subtle issue straightened out. Until then, it is a mess. It is not Semenya's fault. It is not any intersex athlete's fault. Society's refusal to accept a range of biological sexes is what causes this mess.

One day there will be more than the two divisions we call Men's and Women's races.

When those extra divisions come about, then she can compete.

Why does the world have to bend backwards for Semenya?

It's not fair for the other women competitors.
