BBC reported 50.62 last lap for Centro...with his position on the pole, anyone going wide or behind him would have had to run low 50 or 49 to beat him. This is why he won--positioning first, and speed endurance a very close second....amazing race.

So what on the sub-51 last lap! What a pathetic race. Thirteen cowards. Slowest Olympic 1500m race since 1932. I'm sure Steve Scott and Jim Spivey wish now that they never retired. Scott & Spivey are thinking, WTF!
I stopped watching the 1500m a few years ago and feel fully justified. 4:08 (and 4:10 in 2012) for the women and now 3:50 for the men. 800m and sprints are real races.

I agree and after watching that slow a$$ 5K as well, I am done watching distance. I have no idea why anyone would run that damn slow in an Olympic final.
Because sub-51 was what it took in the final lap to win Olympic gold.
Do you have any other questions?
Centro's last 800m would have qualified him for the 800m semis...

Preceded by three laps of race walking.

13:03???
People run that slow in the finals because they are exhausted from the heat race(s) or they are just not fit enough to lead and do anything with it.
The great North African runners of the past (Morceli, Aouita, El G) never leaft it to such a slowwwww pace and the final 100m. Kiprop's tactical sense is left to question.
If someone wanted to take, then take it. Centro ran the perfect race that he knew he could win....and he did. Top guys in the world played around and thought they could outkick him--no chance
Why are people upset about the slow time. If you want to see a fast time trial race go watch a diamond league meet or train your ass off and get to that level and take it from the gun

The great north African runners of the past were dopers.
Cycling has an event as part of the Omnium (or something) where the person in last at the end of each lap gets eliminated. Now that would be interesting.
Kiprop is off the hot sauce, that takes away his magical powers.
Centro proved today that he is the TACTICAL MASTER of the 1500/mile. Basically the antithesis of Kiprop.

El G used non-ethical pacers, and Aouita never ran an Olympic 1500m.
I guess I forgot. On LR the 3rd greatest achievement of all is a World Championship. The 2nd greatest achievement is Olympic gold. The greatest achievement of all is proving an arbitrary point to a few Letsrun.com posters. Centro failed today.
