Yes, he should have.

1) Renaud compared the brazillian crowd to the 1936 crowd booing Jesse Owens. That was stupid

2) He apologized for that comparison

3) They booed him at the medal ceremony anyway.

They shouldn't have booed him, but Renaud did something somewhat offensive to bring it onto himself.

Also, Da Silva hasn't publicly condemned the booing verbally, but he did try to wave the crowd down and then applauded Renaud while they gave him his silver medal during the ceremony. He also appeared sympathetic after the medal ceremony:
