Yes. It was pretty amazing. "Whatever you do, do not be happy if this person wins the race"
Yeah I was surprised they actually threw that out there before the race. I thought for sure they wouldnt make mention of any drug talk or people who have been busted. I was impressed and happy they did it.
What he basically told everyone was "What you are about to witness is complete BS."
so when Bob Costas calls out a doper it is legit but god forbid an athlete do so!!!!!! you LR hypocrites!!!
Bob Costas is a Liar and a cheat.
He doesn't care what he says, as long as he's paid for it.

He should make a bid for the us presidency.
Costas didn't actually call her a doper. He mentioned the Aden arrest and that Aden coaches Dibaba, and when they switched to the track stadium Masback then mentioned Costas mentioning the controversy.
I thought it was a pretty minimal mention, all things considered. It almost looked like someone told NBC that it was looking odd that they kept showing Dibaba and Aden's athletes without ever mentioning that Aden had been arrested in Spain in connection with doping. So they came up with a way to reference it without making Masback do anything more than acknowledge that there was some sort of controversy.

Actually, yes. Journalists are (supposed to be) unbiased. Athletes should be and are 100% self-interested.
When a journalist calls someone out for doping they are (ideally) reporting the facts and providing context to viewers. When a current athlete calls someone out for doping it is really just saying I deserve more credit, medals, money, etc.
I obviously don't object to athletes calling for better testing or whistle-blowing when they have hard facts to back it up. Calling individual people out during a competition is just another version of trash talk and is at best unnecessary sour grapes and at worst a cover-up for their own misdeeds/ failings.
I was extremely surprised to see such bold coverage of the Aden arrest. I disagree with those who are calling it a casual mention. It was BOLD. To do a whole piece right before the race saying, "Oh, by the way, everyone is pissed because the coach of THIS LADY [video of Dibaba], who happens to be the WR holder and from a prominent running family, was just arrested for suspicion of PED trafficking."
After watching them milk the obviously doped Bolt for everything he's worth over a period of eight years, I thought it was refreshingly honest and direct.
I am not at all happy about the doping situation and I hope Dibaba is clean, but the reality is her coach was arrested and it's a big story for those in the know and I am thrilled that they honored that truth by passing that information along to the general public.
Aden and Dibaba were prefaced with the stories of Russia losing their 4xwhatever golds from 8 or 12 years ago (forget when) and the story of the sole Russian t&f participant (a jumper who trained in FL who evidently was then subject to OOC drug testing in the US) who was cleared to be in the Olympics despite the entire Russian team being banned. Then they went into the Dibaba and Aden story right before airing the womens 1500m.
Interesting to see both Dibaba sisters have feet of clay in these Olympics when last year they were both untouchable world beaters before their coach got caught and the pharmaceutical pipeline got shutdown.
I was impressed that Bob said / was allowed to say as much as he did. At one point, he even corrected himself to add the information that Aden was specifcally arrested.
What was even more interesting, though, was what we learned from him & the viewers about the Aden's restrictions & Genzebe Dibaba's race-plan:
1.) Jama Aden has not been allowed to leave Spain.
2.) Therefore, Aden has been forced to coach Dibaba by phone.
3.) Aden told Dibaba to do nothing, essentially, in the first 700m by staying way back.
As a temporary aside, I wonder how the heck did these guys find out Dibaba's race-plan? Did she make it public in an interview?
Now, considering that Dibaba was beaten over 800m, effectively, and was dying at the end to the point that Simpson came close to nipping her, IS IT POSSIBLE THAT ADEN CONVINCED DIBABA TO THROW THE RACE (IN ORDER TO MINIMIZE SUSPICION) BY TELLING HER TO RACE IT IN A WAY THAT HE KNEW SHE WAS VULNERABLE?

He also thinks that the Second Amendment is wrong.
Other athletes, even ex-athletes can tell better than anyone who's doped. All you have to do is listen to Steve Cram's comments during the London women's 1500m. He was later proved right.
So Farah is 100% clean - because (his big mate) Cram never alludes to possible doping? Yes, it's right and proper that commentators and journalists should mention doping/seriously possible doping when relevant but they have to be totally consistent and not swayed by personal friendships or national bias.
Was disappointed Masbach made no mention of Aden during the girls 10k and made no mention of the agent Rosa's arrest during the marathon (the winner is one of his runners). Wonder is Rosa's name will be mentioned when Kiprock lines up next time?
I wonder if NBC will do a piece on the doping allegations surrounding Salazar and their boy Rupp?

Masbach has no right to cmment on doping.
He led the US association during the 2000 olympics when the US was rife with doping. He was behaving like a lawyer for the US, instead of the leader of the organization.
CJ Hunter, Marion Jones, etc, it was all on his watch.
The IAAF is overloaded with dopers on podiums and they pick Dibaba. No one dopes in the West.
I'm a few days behind watching all the recorded content and usually skip the host breaks. What day did this happen?
It happened right before the 1500 finals. He didn't explicitly call her a doper, but i felt the implied takeaway was... "oh so that lady is on performance enhancing drugs".
