Yes, we all know the arguments but there is no possible way that Boston will be able put together a field this year that would compete with Lake Biwa or any other major spring marathon. Wejo was correct on all fronts! Boston with its poor management has relegated its status to a B-marathon at best. How the mighty have fallen. I truly hope that Boston will produce a long term plan to restore one of the world's best events back into elite status.
the strange thing is Boston was never considered the marathon to run. Derek Clayton criticised them for their lack of professionalism and was scorned way back then. When the other events went towards big sponsorship Boston stuck to their amateur status. They only went towards prize money in the mid-80's and then they had their glory years, with most of the world's best going there. If the reports are anything to go on, they seem to be taking a step back to the old days. Strangely enough they have the toughest qualification process of most of the marathons.
