And it looks like north Korea would get silver
If it is true scoring, it would be top 2 -
Gold, Ethiopia
Silver, USA
Bronze, Bahrain

using top 2, you have it wrong.
Ethiopia 9 (4,5)
Bahrain 10 (2,8)
USA 13 (6,7)
Three Kenyans were 1,2,8, but two ran for Bahrain. OTOH 5th place was an obvious E Euro doper so 5,6,8 for US women is still excellent. Obviously prepared very well for the hot weather, and LA Trials were a good prep.
Has there ever been a US marathon team with 3 athletes in the top 10 men or women?

If you can think back as far as this morning, I think you'll recall that this has, in fact, happened.
Let me clarify, before today's race. Have 3 US men ever finished top 10 in the marathon? I googled, but google failed me.
1972 men: 1,4,9

They should allow a team competition but allow 6-7 athletes and top 3-4 score. You can't really calculate scores when athletes drop out because they won't medal and want to save for fall Marathon.

Too bad then. If a team competition, there should motivation to finish.
I'd say teams of 5, 4 count. No way two places don't count.

Agreed. They ran tough. Too bad Shalane didn't have more in the tank. It seemed like she was pretty uncomfortable for the entire second half of the race.
I have no doubt the women's performance will be much better then the men's. Especially since we all know Rupp will be a DNF after his ridiculous plan to double. What a waste!

That would be a pretty huge race, and as the marathon is one of the popular individual events, it would ruin placing for many.
What you want is Olympic Team Cross Country. And you are probably not alone within the running community, but quite alone compared to the remaining 99% of Olympic viewers.

1972. Shorter 1, Kenny Moore 4, Jack Bacheler 9.

You would only let in say 8 countries so the field wouldn't be much bigger. But even with say 5 person teams (top 3/4 score), you are going to make it drastically harder for other countries to win as you are just adding more top level kenyans/ethopians to the race.
Personally I would take an Ekiden over XC. It would make for much better TV. Obviously this would just be giving out more medals to kenya/ethopia and encouraging Bahrain to recruit 7 athletes instead of 1-2 per event.:)

Mr. Poopy Pants. Could you try to be a little more negative? I'll bet the house that he finishes. You on?
