I can't believe am agreeing with a PC Bromani ESPN article, but the overall message of this article is spot on. King was super out of line in her win the other night. The part that got me was here refusal to shake hands with the Russian opponents, total lack of class. Doesn't Rupp do this sometimes? Call me crazy, but I think a lot of the American athletes are on the hot sauce as well.

i saw the article and i felt immediate contempt for the author.
i don't care about swimming and know nothing about this Lilly King, but why on earth should she sit up there and kiss ass if a convicted doper is sitting next to her?
and if it's a good thing when t&f athletes speak out, why not swimmers?
The athletes and fans are the only ones that seem interested in a clean sport on principle, while the governing bodies and sponsors only care if it affects their bottom line. Sensing this negligence from the governing bodies, the athletes have to take matters into their own hands.
Cheating isn't very classy or sportsmanship-like, so I can understand why some athletes might abandon the standard decorum.
She lost me at the mention of buying stuff at GNC and taking it....that is a load of horsecrap. She really lost me at the end.

The Olympics is the embodiment of borders and politics you 'moran.' It's so corrupt and bloated that people are swimming in sh!t, and money is crossing over borders to make IOC members insanely wealthy. Meanwhile not giving a hoot that the infrastructure will rot just like all the other venues built in nations that can't afford it, but made empty promises and sold their soul to get the games. The IOC testing is a joke and everyone is in bed with everyone else.
She was trying to win a gold medal, she's 19, and swimming against a 2x convicted doper. Efimova wagged her finger.....she called down the thunder and boy she got it.

The article is total BS in my view. Perhaps the issue is not Lilly King's comments, but rather the governing bodies - IOC and FINA - not doing their jobs to protect the integrity of sport. And, NBC for trying to sweep doping under the rug at every turn.
Remember, the Aussie and the French guys made the same sort of comments about the Chinese freestyle swimmer who served a secret ban. The head of FINA hugged that same swimmer on the deck after he medaled. I don't think any single country has a monopoly on cheating. But, the fact that there is cheating should not be used to silence athletes who speak out. It's the same sort of shaming that caused the press to call Shirley Babashoff surly Shirley when she called out the East Germans for obvious - and state sponsored doping. This is more of the same. King has no obligation to be a fan of doped athletes.
No one's asking her to "be a fan" or line up for Efimova autographs. Look at Bolt after beating Gatlin in Beijing last year. Shake hands and move on.

Wait a minute! Who here is in favor of letting athletes dope? Why are so many people hoping King gets caught doping?
Anyone who thinks drug cheating should stop should be on board with the people who are willing to fight it and if the organizers aren't going to enforce the rules, then it falls to the athletes themselves to do it.

You want her to shake a dopers hand and keep her mouth shut? Why? Because it's good sportsmanship? Bullsh*t - athletes have been doing this for years and nothing has changed. She's been given a platform to speak out and I'm glad she's doing it. King, along with many others are tired of the corrupt system, the endless TUEs, the outright dopers and she's actually trying to do something about it. King is basically a nobody outside of the insular world of swimming. I never heard of her, but she makes a big stink at the Olympics. I bet her goal was to just get press.
Lance never said a thing about other dopers. My was outspoken in denying his own doping but he was never a crusader on the issue.

You are a loser, who cares what you think. I think athletes should refuses to step on the podium if Russian are up there. Shameful actually, IAAF, IOC, WADA refused to act an have left it up to the athletes to deal with the situation.
King seems like a bully. Gotta put others down to feel better about herself and her own accomplishments. Efimova's a person too, despite her violations. King should have worried about herself.
Efimova put herself out there for more criticism with the finger wagging after the heats. When you're lucky to even be allowed into the games having somehow been caught doping despite the massive Russian effort to prevent it, it's on you to be a humble representative of your nation. Kudos to King for not toeing the company line.
Do you watch UFC,MLB,NFL,or any major sport? Maybe you should stop watching those sports if your so hung up on the fact that dopers are allowed to compete.
