Are you allowed to bring track spikes onto a plane flight? If yes, do you need to take the spikes out of the receptacles?

yes u can take them on flights. and no u dont have to take the spikes out. jsut pakc them like normal. so no worries about that.
whatta ya wanta do? run windsprints up and down the aisle?
ive never had a REAL problem, ususally end up watching the xray people back up the machine 5 or six times then run it though. Then some guys wants to inspect it. but thats only a few minutes extra screening.
The smart thing to do is have your spikes and uniform in your carry on, then if your luggage gets lost you're not SOL.
Well "Genius", that's the only time they'd have to run it through a scanner, wouldn't they? You can carry on guns for pete's sake...but they have to be in your checked luggage.
Use ceramic spikes...you might get some weird looks with metal spikes if it shows up on the X-ray machine. The bafoons who work the x-ray machines dont really know about track...so they wont be very cooperative. (trust me...i once missed a flight because airport security thought that a ketchain was a knife)
Check them if you don't want any worries. And if you want to worry at least be an informed worrier--read this, print it out, and take it with you to the airport. I guarantee that if you read this you'll know more about TSA security procedures than most of the TSA employees you'll meet.

Apparently the TSA can change part of their website but not all; read this as well.

Or... take the metal spikes out and pack them in your checked baggage. Carry the shoes on so you're sure you'll have something that fits you to race in, and at worst, you may have to buy more spikes if your checked bags don't make it.
