Just ran a 18:50 3 mile yesterday. Was about 85-90 degrees out and I felt pretty good after. Is this a good start for a freshman?

male or female?
Assuming male. Decent. Nothing special. Really hard to tell. Depends on maturity.
male
Might be able to go sub 18 this season, but XC times are very soft with courses and distances so variable. Maybe 15 something by Senior year if no injuries and decent training.

No. Unless you have a horrible state for running. I ran 17:09 5k as a freshman and got 73rd and states. Keep working
CHRIS SOLINSKY ran 19:30 his first high school 5k XC meet as a freshman. Granted, he was top 25 in the state at the end of the year and ran around 16:30.let's see how you progress.....plus, 3 miles is silly, i'd say you should aim to be under 18:00 for 5k this season

yes that is a great time, especially early/mid season.
Most HS freshman coaches shouldnt be pushing this age group much so yes it is great
as a freshman I started with a 20:23 and finished at 16:53, sorta similar but I didn't become a Chris Solinsky
started out running 22:40 as a freshman, ended 15:50 senior. Just wished I had trained harder, but that's life. also, i did fairly well i guess. I'd love to go back to freshman year though and dominate my state, knowing what i now know. i'd go garry lindgren on them
You'll end up somewhere between world junior champion and slower than Harambe by then end of HS.
Jokes aside, it is impossible to tell how good you can be. Just have fun and train smart/hard and see where you end up.
That's stellar kid. It took me all 4 years of high school xc to run an 18:20 5k. I didn't train properly. Now I'm 32 and running 18:20 as a 5k split to my half marathons. Us older guys always say "if only I knew then what I know now". Well guess what? You're us then. And 6:17 pace for a 3 mile tempo run is excellent for a 9th grader. If you read up on training (read Jack Daniels NOW) and dive in full force, you will easily break into the 17's as a freshman xc runner and have potential to do great things moving forward. Keep posting, keep learning, and be consistently improving. Mad respect on your 18:50 3 miler.
18:50 maybe a good time. Really hard to say. I'd guess I would of run around that as a freshman but had a stress fracture. I ended up sub 14:40 my senior year
