Different companies, different colors for swimsuits but all track athletes are wearing Nike at Olympics, how come. Is it because swimsuits are equipment (like a javelin vs a shoe?) one swimmer even gets to wear his own brand (Michael Phelps).

Its harder to force a group of 6'4 muscle bound Greek gods to do something than a bunch of scrawny social rejects

Let's face it, sprinters and throwers are not exactly the brightest bulbs in the box

You nailed it. Swimsuits can effect performance as they effect buoyancy.

Are you going to tell the greatest Olympian of all time he can't wear what he wants??

They told Michael Jordan that he had to wear Reebok and not Nike.
To the point of the thread, track athletes can wear any brand shoes/spikes for their warm up and competition.

Then AlSal should have his own singlet company with all the holes he puts in Rupp's for the marathon....
You nailed it with the equipment analogy, I believe.
Regarding the Phelps cap, can Meb wear a running hat or visor with a modest logo? What about a stocking hat if its cold? I bet they they would need to be nike branded for the olympics, but it might be worth a try.

Didn't they have this issue with sunglasses before? Athletes were not allowed to Oakleys even though they were a personal sponsor. It was Nike or nothing.
When the Supersuits came out the contracts were relaxed so swimmers can generally wear what ever suit they want. The Aussies have to get the AOC logo printed on the front of non speedo suits. They have to wear the issued speedo caps as does Canada. Team USA is actually supplied by Arena this games. Watch Phelps tonight his USA parka is Arena. The US swimmers seem to be allowed to wear what ever cap they want as well.
Watch the Aussie Campbell sisters - Arena Carbon suits and speedo caps.

No. If a runner were to wear a hat it would have to be uniformed provided by Nike.
I am pretty sure that footwear is the only thing that a track athlete can wear that may show a sponsor outside of the uniform.
Tell me about the beach volleyball bikini buoyancy. KWJ and her partner April have different logos.

Track athletes have to wear the Nike uniform as it is the USATF sponsor, but they can wear whatever shoes they like. Shoes= swimsuits when it comes to technical or competition wear.
Also, USA Swimming has 3 swim suit sponsors. My guess is that swim caps are considered technical wear along with the suits.

Olympic tennis players (doubles) wearing different uniforms as well. Is that due to buoyancy also?

Correct on both counts.
I didn't know that TYR company was still in business. I though they were a tri-geek company.
