Kudos to the CAS for clearing a two-time drug cheat to compete in The Olympics. Is any ruling they make ever in the interest of a fair sport? Sheesh.
I wonder if she'll get the same retaliation from Russia that Mack Horton of Australia got from China for speaking out against Sun Yang.
Got to hand it to Mack and Lily - Track needs more outspoken superstars against their cheating colleagues.

Russia and China are awful countries. They are both full of disgusting people whoes culture is based on lying and cheating. Their respective governments actions in Crimea, the South China Sea, Syria, etc etc reflect these morally bankrupt cultures. They should all be banned from the Olympics. The IOC has made a HUGE mistake with their decision re: Russia prior to these games. Disgusting situation.

Yep you're right - it is such a shame Justin Gatlin is still permitted to compete at the Olympics.
When will we ever get fair sport?

You are a deluded sap if you think the Ukraine war was caused by anyone but the west. Crimeans are thankful the Russians saved them from being invaded and devastated by the Maidan forces like Donbass and Lugansk were.
Syria is even worse. The country has been ravaged by bloodthirsty jihadi terrorists organized and armed by Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and the CIA. They get away with it because the GOP refuses to hold it against them, as they would have done the same themselves.
The United States has been in the business of arming jihadi terrorists since the 1970's at least, all in the name of corporate profit.
You’ve been caught for drug cheating
Note it's note "You are a drugs cheat", but just You've been caught. Subconsciously, this shows Lilly King to understand what the important fact is. Not the doping (every one does that), but the getting caught.
At the time, Efimova said she didn’t know the substance was illegal, saying she was told the substance was OK to take by a salesperson at GNC.
FINA did accept that Efimova did “not intend to use 7-Keto DHEA in order to enhance her sport performance†and that rather she believed she was taking a simple, legal, L-carnitine supplement.
I don't see how her case is any different than the Western excuses about making innocent mistakes. But she's Russian (though training in USA), so the rules are different. Plus she fully admitted it and didn't even request a B-sample.
In the warped world, it would have been better to appeal to CAS, and claim how much she hates dope cheats on national TV in a sympathy interview, rather than admit an honest mistake (as with her later meldonium) and take responsibility for her actions.
Efimova was caught by the US system (Montreal lab), training in the US. Why don't they so easily catch their own dopers?
Well I guess this one was "knowledgable" enough to mislead the Russian (deliberately?), setting her up for a doping offense and marring her for life.
If this were a US/UKer, an alternative measure would be found. But a Russian? NO!!
Wow, you really have a hard-on for Putin don't you? Your last name wouldn't happen to be Snowden would it? I don't dispute the fact that the US has armed groups in the ME--mainly in the 70s and 80s that have later turned on us but Russia has continually used outright lies to circumvent international law in recent years. They still deny they were in Crimea. Sure their are some groups in Ukraine that want the Russians there but their are also many Ukrainians that want closer ties with the west.
It's the same situation in Syria. The Russians claim to be bombing ISIS but turn around and target hospitals and the Free Syrian Army.
China's behavior is similar. Act like a thug and bully to smaller neighbors and then either deny it or simply say they own international waters in the South China Sea.
These disgusting, cheating tactics are deeply rooted in the Chinese and Russian cultures and are reflected in their state sponsored athletics programs. The IOC should've banned Russia from Rio. The Chinese--at least in regards to Rio--appear to have less damning evidence out there against their athletes, so for this Olympics a ban probably wasn't called for.
Yes, I do realize that the US has dopers too (like Rupp, Solinsky, et al) but we don't have a system for training athletes like the Russians and Chinese. Our athletes have to find sponsorship to survive and, while it's clear some groups (mainly Nike athletes it appears) are dirty, doping is not part of the broader system of sport here. Russia and China's state sponsored systems are corrupt, just like their cultures and peoples. Remember Ma's army? Those records from the 90s are dirty as hell.
Kick 'em all out!
CAS
Court of Arbitrary Sport
There was that, but Efimova was also caught for meldonium this year. Two-time drug offender. Escaped suspension because WADA didn't get their drug timeline straight, and then was kept out of the olympics by two separate ruling authorities on the "prior offenders immediately out" rule before FINA somehow overturned it to let her and every other Russian swimmer in.
Now that's nuanced political analysis! Incidentally, for those keeping score, in a 2014 referendum, with two choices available (essentially abide by the 1992 Constitution and remain Ukrainian or be governed by Russia), with a turnout of over 80% of eligible voters, 97% "chose" to be ruled by Russia and 3% "chose" the Ukraine. Lol!
This is so true, Bad Wigins. I wish more people would understand the depth of the situation. Things do not happen in a vacuum. The public needs to ask questions, think critically, and not be fooled by the scripted stories that are written by the Money Power.
Pretty disappointed in the simplistic political analysis of Bad Wigins. You can say that the "U.S. engages in power politics too" or that "the greed of U.S. based oil companies helped cause middle east chaos" without suggesting that there's a moral equivalence between Obama and Putin, unless of course Bad Wigins has recently had to fend off poisoning attempts from agents sent by Obama.
In any case, as many others have said, it was the systemic, state sponsored doping that is especially egregious with Russia. I get pretty tired of the response "but U.S. athletes dope too" or "if the swimmer/runner was from the U.S., you wouldn't be accusing them" as if Salazar's athletes/Gatlin/Lagat/the records of Flo Jo, etc. etc. get a free pass from followers of U.S. track.
In terms of swimming, I've read allegations about both Phelps and Ledecky, The reason I'd doubt this has nothing to do with their U.S. origins. Both were child prodigies, neither had any great leap in times or progressions, and as far as Ledecky, I'm kind of dubious that parents would consent to doping their 15 year old daughter. Nonetheless, if she fails a test, she should be gone from the sport.
I'm not being naive about national federations, including the U.S., looking the other way when its one of their athletes that's accused. Its just that the "U.S. athletes dope too" doesn't hold much water as an argument against punishing those who are caught cheating, If King is innocent of doping, she has a perfect right to express her disdain for Efimova.
I am not trying to say that King, Phelps, or any other American is a doper, not trying to advance the "but US athletes dope, too" argument. In fact, I would be surprised to hear of a doper being found among the current crop of US endurance athletes. With regard to the power sports, I do not know and do not follow them as closely. I root for the US, and do not see any specific or convincing evidence against our athletes.
All I was trying to say was that I like Bad Wigins' political analysis. Money and power rule the world, and do so via covert operations.. Politicians are followers and figureheads.
This is why I enjoy sports. The rest is just too dark and depressing.

I get it. I guess I'm a little more optimistic!

I don't get this. Are you saying Gatlin shouldn't be banned?? The comment seems sarcastic.
So I'm looking at these FINA stats for 2015 drugs testing.
http://www.fina.org/content/statistics-2015
Why doesn't this King chick appear as being tested, either in competition or out?
King and Efimova are about to face off. King better be able to back up the trash talk with a win.
King backed it up....good for her.
