He has a TUE for the drug (Trimetazidine), but it was still banned in-competition, at least until the end of 2014 when the transgression occurred. But now it's clearly past that. I guess if CHINADA had covered it up (like other countries), or been incompetent somehow, then Sun would still be a hero?

China demands an apology.

“I used the words drug cheat because he tested positive,” said Horton. “I just have a problem with athletes who have tested positive and are still competing.”

The Chinese swim team is also on board with Sun’s defensive stance, demanding an apology for the ‘attack’ they say Horton launched. (F. Sports)

“We have been noticing what has been said in the past two days by Horton, who launched a malicious personal attack (on Chinese swimmers),” Chinese swim team manager Xu Qi said.

So let me get this straight. Horton beat Sun Yang for the gold medal and he´s still bit#hing about how Sun is a drug cheat? So are we to believe that a ¨clean¨Horton beat a ¨drugged¨Sun Yang?????? What universe is he living in. If he believes Sun Yang is a doper, than that puts a lot of doubt into his own drug use. I´m willing to bet my house this Horton character is even a bigger doper than the Chinese and is just being a hypocritical cry baby.

idiot. if you would drug yourself to death, you would still lose to any decent runner. ordinary non professionals use PED as well and still suck.

In many cases like these, the athlete is punished and accomplishments become questionable in the eyes of many resulting in the athlete being unjustly tainted for life. Sun Yang is likely to face this for the remainder of his swimming career.

Particularly if the Aussies are around to rake him over it.

Interesting.

Trimetazidine looks very similar to meldonium, in that it is a fatty acid oxidation inhibitor, and used as an anti-ischemic agent in the treatment of angina. It is made by a French company.

The problem is that angina is from a decrease in blood flow to the heart. It is associated with a decrease in exercise capacity. I have never heard of a young, world-class athlete of Olympic medal type ability that has had angina.

I think it would be pretty much impossible in endurance sports.

They had a big scandal regarding their entire swim team doping in 2012. Forgot the details about it though.
