Serious question. Let's say your final is on the first or second day of the Olympics. There are two weeks of Olympic events left. Are you welcome to stay for the duration to participate in the closing ceremonies? Do you just hang out in the Olympic Village for two weeks partying and making friends? Is it up to your federation? I assume you can stay if you want to, but job (for some) and family obligations might dictate that you leave asap. Anyone know for sure?
Surrounded by all of the fittest / best looking people in the world... I know what I would do!

We have all been there as elite athletes. There is a meet or a race and you have 1000s of us staying in the same hotel or so. Yeah after the event you go and party and talk and all and yes, some hooking up does occur and all....and things can get pretty wild. I remember being at the USA Cross Championship a few years ago in Colorado and the after party was a blast and yeah...another girl and I went to my room and had a good night.
I believe some of this goes on...but not as much as people think. Many of these athletes have partners and all. Also privacy has got to be an issue as there are just tons of people in a small space.
Not naïve enough to believe that it does not happen....but I don't think as much as people think. Afterall these athletes are on rigorous schedules, diets, sleep, etc. Most are there to compete and are not going to just have sex in the middle of the Olympics. Do some..yes? Do most...NO.
Keep in mind the news just wants to create stories. I know 2 Olympians this year and they say things are pretty low key. And condoms in a vending machine. That sounds really sketchy. Some could just take them all...and why use a machine if there free. Makes no sense! Just saying.

yes you can sleep around pretty easy. They have houses with free women. You can stay until 1 or 2 days after the closing ceremonies. Many go around the city and get to act like tourist. You get into most places for free, if you carry your credentials. Although there was alot of them being stolen in Sydney and we were told to hide them.
There are always parties that they tell us about, and most of our drivers know how to get around. And they all know about the houses.lol But that's if you a lazy. You canmeet girls easy. Most of the big stars only visit the village, they stay elsewhere.

In the sport of track & field, many athletes leave when they are done competing. Anyone continuing the competitive season will have meets lined up beyond the Games, and living 'dorm style' in the village is not as fun as it might seem from the outside.

You mean for those athletes that self-funded their trip.
The athletes making more than $10,000 for the trip, stay in their own housing. For example, the US Basketball team is leasing part of a cruise ship. There's no way a bunch of NBA players would stay in a dorm with broken plumbing.
BTW, the rest of the ship is for "Olympic Family" whatever that means. Real money right there...

If you were at the olympics wouldn't you be picking up free souvenirs left and right? You might not need 100 condoms but they sure don't take up much room in the suitcase
One issue is that there are really 2 categories of athletes a the games
a) the serious ones.
b) the tourist ones. They know they are't going to be competitive on their best days and they can treat it like a party
The US gets a lot more of the A people than B but in a lot of countries it is reversed. The 2:45 800m gal isn't worried about maximizing her performance.

I've always believed that the condoms at the olympics stories are so totally overblown. The athletes all know about the stories, if I were there I'd grab 20-30 condoms just waiting for the headline "this year's olympic village goes through record amount of condoms"

4 or 5. Granted they all had woods like junior, state, and the like in the title. But my time was faster than 2:45. I will not pretend to know how seriously she takes her training but this subject has come up numerous times where the token representatives aren't very serious about their sports. They come from the olympic experience and are not delusional about their chances of being competitive.
