There was a recent article about how "lucrative" hosting chess events (both youth/junior, and now senior) can be. http://en.chessbase.com/post/seniors-the-bill-please
In the past the European Junior and World Championships have been criticised as being a lucrative business for those who took part in organising them. The seniors too, gained the impression, that the organisers see them als willing donators.
If you look at their calendar, they have: the Youth U-16 Olympiad (teams) this month (Slovakia), the U-20 next month (India), the U-18/U-16/U-14 individual championships in Sept, then the U-12/U-10/U-8 in Oct, the seniors in Nov, the "world schools" (universities?) in Dec. There are similar "European" events to extract money.
One French "youth" organizer a decade ago ended up taking the chess guys to the CAS when they said his conditions were so bad that they would never do business with him again (he lost in the end, the right to contract freely is enshrined in Swiss law).
