Rio Olympic Village sucks so bad Australia leaves

All of the money for improving and adding new facilities went to the corrupt politicians. The media will lie and try to whitewash everything once the games start. They will collude with corrupt politicians to ensure that the cameras are just right, and not show an honest look of how bad the situation really is.

The real people suffering are the people of Rio who will still be nable to tell their story to the world.

First erected as a perspex fence along the Linha Vermhelha (Red Line) motorway in 2010 - purportedly as an "acoustic barrier" - organisers have spent more than R$200,000 (£45,000) covering the wall ahead of the Games, claiming it is a decoration and not a disguise.

Indeed, in Nova Holanda, one of the communities that sits alongside the motorway and where drug traffickers man a makeshift checkpoint at the entrance, there is no sign of the Olympic spirit.

There is much more money to be made in less developed nations.

The IOC is making a killing on these games. There are performance guarantees that Rio did not hit that result in a payout to the IOC. The IOC keeps the profits, and shifts the costs to the local government. London Games cost Londoners over 1 billion pounds. And that was a successful production! Rio will probably pay 2-3 times that.

Socialism in action. Lucky they didn't have it in Venezuela. There should be one venue purpose built where the weather and country are virtually guaranteed to be reasonable. I pick New Zealand.

Excellent idea - however, every summer olympics should be in London, and every winter olympics in Vancouver.
