400 split was about 61, 800 split about 2:06. She had a rabbit on her side for the first 800. She didn't want the rabbit to be in front of her.
Let the attacks begin. I can't wait for No Limit to tell us all how breaking the world indoor record ( at age 39 no less ) is nothing and suzy is god....that was something!
drugs...plan and simple, she never runs any meets that drug test. olympics?
i believe that world records can not be ratified unless a drug test is performed. This even counts for national records in most countrys, the U.S i dont know, they dont care. and if she ever does fail a test usatf will probably brush it under the carpet and ask her to retire. Because thats whats best for the sport.......... right??
any one want to bet she dont live to be 65.
That was a fine run! Leave her alone.
Perhaps it's because you're all about 14, with a maturity level even lower. But it would be a refreshing change for once if you would give this woman credit for some of the extraordinary things she accomplishes, especially something as well-planned and executed as this race. She has indicated her goal is to get a medal in the World Championships in Paris at age 40. She'll be there.
Com'on lets not play games, did Regina really run sub 4 minutes in the 1500m? I just got off work and this is the first results I happen to come across. If she did accomplish that feat she has not only snatch the World Record, but became THE FIRST female ever to run:
800m under 2 minutes
1500m under 4 minutes
5000m under 15 minutes
which is a INCREDIBLE ACCOMPLISHMENT ALSO! It would be nice if Regina, Suzy, and Nicole could show up in top shape for the World indoor and outdoor and finsih the Finals!

i'll believe it when i see the drug test results...
Is this the Orville Atkins who ran for the Seniors Track Club?
Vipam - Unless I'm mistaken, many runners have bettered those times before Regina.
Congratulations to her for an excellent run and breaking 4 minutes!
Yes, I ran for the Seniors at the end of my competition years.
dunes runner
YOU are wrong! No other female runner has broken ALL of the following barriers:
INDOOR or OUTDOORS
2 minutes for 800m
4 minutes for 1500m
15 minutes for 5000m
not even the great chinese, eastern bloc, or africans. I have checked and re-checked, Regina is the FIRST and ONLY to accomplish that incredible feat!

Regina has a history of peaking for what we, the non-elite public, deem unimportant. It is February 1st after all. She also has the history of burning out, injuries, etc. outdoor when the meets she says she is peaking toward comes around. The problem is she returns the next year and repeats the process, and the next year, and the next year,... Regardless of what happens later this year, which only time will tell, her race today was fantastic and worthy of any and all praise she gets. Let's hope the yearly pedagogy lines up more closely with her verbal goals for the season. Hopefully, this is the year it all comes together for her.
62.3 for 400m, 2:06.2 for 800m and 3:12.0
for 1,200m.
Great Race... Horrible post-race interview. I get freaked out when her eyes get real big in the interview and then at the end I'm terrified when she flails her arms around in an attempt to be... what? cute? I don't know, she's a weird interviewee. Awesome race, though. Hopefully this year she'll run well when it counts.
Regina was being Regina and she was excited. I too wish her a good year and look foreword to seeing her in Paris.
It's not as rare as it used to be, but it's still rare to see a world distance record being set. It's even more rare to see one set in person! If you saw it on tv, relish it. If you were in Boston, count yourself extra lucky.
Regina's record over these years will put her near the top of the heap among all-time greats in US distance running. Despite the ifs, ands and buts about her career, her longevity and achievements are arguably unparalleled in US history. I too wish her the best on this season and hope she can carry her level of fitness. As per when she set the record, Feb 1...being the WORLD'S BEST EVER IN A RACE AT ANY TIME OF YEAR is too special for words.
A friend and I had a breakfast with Regina in Seoul in 1988 when she was just starting out and was with Francie Larrieu. When I said I missed oatmeal, Regina took a packet from her purse and gave it to me. I was an older fart even then.
When was the last time an american woman set a world record at a distance event (800m and up) which is part of World Championships/Olympics (indoor or outdoor)?
Just so we don't count rarely run indoor 5,000, or mile/two-mile/three-mile, 2485m steeple etc.
On the men's side it's obviously Khannouchi, who was the last to do it before him?
I was at the meet tonight...
She had a rabbit for the first 3 -4 laps (but the rabbit never really took the lead).....Roidgina won going away and was hardly breathing hard at the end.....when she pees in a cup at the end of these kind of races I'll give her props....until then I wanna puke whenever she shows up, runs a fast time with little competition and in the case of tonight's race picks up a nice ($25,000) paycheck for breaking the world record. As a minimum the race promoters/insurance companies paying the $$$ for the records should require a drug test before paying out the cash.....i wonder if she'd have shown up for the race tonight if she was told in advance that in order to collect the $25 grand she's have to pass a drug test....
It's about time she came clean and put all this behind her for the good of the sport....
