Hello :) I posted about two months ago about my illiotibial band pain, I can't reply on my older thread unfortunately, so I have updated and reposted. I would love to hear any success stories, did orthotics work for you?
I am sorry to make another long winded post about itb syndrome, there must be billions out there already, but I would just like to ask for some advice and some suggestions about my particular it band injury as I guess everyone's injuries are different :)
I felt some sharp lateral knee pain after a brisk training run in February. The training run was probably too fast and with too little time between my previous two training sessions; I rested for the next few weeks, not knowing what the issue was, applying ice and anti inflammatories. I visited a sports physio in March who diagnosed me with itbs, and suggested stretches, foam roller and the most important glute and hip exercises. After a week of stretching and strengthening, I was back to training (gradually) for two weeks pain free before I woke up in the morning with soreness :( about 1.5 months have passed since then, and I have revisited the physio who ruled out any back or feet problems. I had an x Ray which ruled out any structural knee damage, and I have since expanded my strengthening regime because my previous simple squats were likely not sufficient. My current regime for each leg is:
3 x 65 hip hikes
4 x 30 leg raises
30 sit to stand squats with a focus on engaging glutes
3 x 30 glute bridge
10 pistol squats (if not to tired)
3 x 30 clams
( I am planning to incorporate a side to side walk with a theraband )
I am sorry for the long-winded nature of this post, I am hoping to return to shorter distance track running for 400metres for next years season, as I am likely not to suited to longer distance. I have had a gait analysis and switched from stability to more neutral shoes, and have been doing some short sprints, as these are less aggravating. I stretch hamstrings, glutes etc daily and use a foam roller but not on itb as I found this exacerbated things. I still get random twinges and occasionally quite awful pain when walking for no apparent reason, some days are just worse than others. I would just like to ask for some more advice on strengthening and overcoming this injury for good :)
