The 400 meters is where the gift of speed that the black man was blessed with begins to wane some what. Now we are not just talking speed, we are now talking "sustained" speed" or "speed endurance". There have been far more great white 400 guys over the last 30 years or so than short dashmen. The last white American to win an Olympic sprint prior to Wariner was USC's Mike Larrabee, yep a 400 guy!
It's not the fact the black athlete simply has another gear that gets me, it's those who try to pretend that no they don't. Anyone who has seen Barry Sanders or Gale Sayers on a football field has to know there are no white guys running like that. Same can be said about Mo Greene or Bullet Bob Hayes. Who are their white counterparts?
A white James Brown or Muddy Waters? I don't think so!
